Rash of injuries has Lumen soccer team looking toward hopeful playoff run   By Mike Moore Staff Writer   Jackson — The injury report has been a rotating carousel of names and diagnosis. And if he wasn’t front and center to witness it, Damon Havlicek may not believe its validity.   But as the Lumen Christi girls soccer coach spoke Thursday night about his team, and about its continuous updating of who’s in and who’s out, he couldn’t help but force a laugh.   “I’ve never had anything like this before,” he said. “I’ve had friends who coach who tell me stuff similar, I guess. But you never expect something like this to happen to you.”   Since the season started, the Titans have lost three players for the entire year, three more have missed time with quadricep injuries, another with a hamstring issue and another with a hip flexor.   “I’ve never pulled kids up from the junior varsity before during the season,” Havlicek said. “This year I had no choice.”   In one of Lumen’s most recent games, Havlicek said he had two subs on the bench.   The girls were 8-5-1 entering Friday’s tilt with Western.  …

Two Spring Arbor Baseball student-athletes named All-Crossroads League; Tyler Reed named Newcomer of the Year

  SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Spring Arbor University junior Tyler Reed (Brooklyn, MI / Columbia Central) and sophomore Conner Lengerich (Monroe, IN / Adams Central) have been named to the Crossroads League Baseball All-Conference Team, as voted on by the league coaches. Reed was also named the 2016 Crossroads League Newcomer of the Year.   In his first season with the Cougars, Reed (pictured above) made an immediate impact. The junior outfielder finished the campaign with a .333 batting average and 27 runs scored while leading the team with eight home runs and 35 runs batted in. He also posted team-highs in slugging percentage (.605) and on-base percentage (.432). Reed, a Brooklyn, Michigan native, garnered Crossroads League Player of the Week honors for the week of Apr. 11-16 after batting .591 with four long balls, including a grand slam, and 13 RBI’s.   Reed ranked among the league leaders in several offensive categories. He finished second in slugging percentage, fourth in home runs and seventh in both on-base percentage and RBI’s.   Lengerich also took home his first piece of all-conference hardware following a breakout sophomore season. Drive the track and take a tour at MIS

BROOKLYN, Mich. (May 11, 2016) — Fans have the opportunity to drive the high banks on the two-mile oval at Michigan International Speedway in 2016 and they can take a behind the scenes tour of the entire facility. In 2016, guests can experience both on the same day as the speedway will host track laps and track tours together. Join us on the following days: May 26 June 16 July 12 August 11 September 15 Track laps at MIS return in 2016 where fans will have the chance to drive on the two-mile racetrack. Laps will take place from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Guests who wish to do both the track laps and track tours will be slotted to drive the track from 12:30 – 1 p.m. This will allow you to be ready for the Track Tour at 1:30 p.m. Reservations for track tours and track laps can be made by calling 800-354-1010 (no online purchases are available). Once a phone order has been placed, a ticket will be mailed to the guest in advance of their selected day. All guests are asked to use the entrance off of Brooklyn Highway.
