SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Crossroads League has announced its Academic All-Crossroads League award winners for the 2016 winter and spring seasons, and 34 Spring Arbor University student-athletes were recognized for their academic excellence. A total of 237 student-athletes from the Crossroads League's 10 member institutions participating in men's basketball, women's basketball, men's golf, women's golf, men's track and field, women's track and field, baseball and softball received the honor. Spring Arbor and Taylor University were tied at the top of the league with 34 honorees. The SAU softball program led all teams with seven players honored while the women's track and field team landed six on the list. Baseball, women's basketball and men's track and field had four student-athletes earn a nod. Men's basketball, men's golf and women's golf posted three apiece. In order to be eligible for Academic All-Crossroads League, a student-athlete must have reached junior status academically and possess a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale for the entire academic semester in which the student-athlete participated in the league sport. St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea today announced that the 27thAnnual "Heart & Sole" race, held last month, drew 579 participants and raised $7,500 to help fund Behavioral Health Services offered at the hospital. The money will be used to purchase exercise equipment for patients' use in the hospital's soon-to-be renovated Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit. "Exercise and physical activity play a vital role in the recovery of our patients," said Nancy Siegrist, director of Behavioral Health Services at St. Joe's Chelsea. "The participants in this year's event, whether walking, running or biking, recognize the importance of good mental health. Many participated in honor of loved ones who have experienced a mental health condition. We thank them for their involvement and support and for bringing attention to this public health issue." Behavioral Health Services at St. Joe's provides both inpatient and outpatient services to meet the specific needs of patients and their families in Chelsea and surrounding communities in addressing the physical, psychological, and social aspects of well-being. A Community Health Needs Assessment completed in 2015 showed that within St. Joe's service area, one in four people reported experiencing depression or some form of mental health illness within the past year. …
