Despite awkward week, Brogan trying to keep team focused on the game — and nothing more

By Mike Moore Staff Writer   Jackson — It’s a week like any other, from practice times and locations to what should be eaten, and not eaten, the night before game day.   Lumen Christi football coach Herb Brogan’s been through it before, and the long-time sideline general welcomes the challenge once again.   The Titans are going for a ninth state title in program history, and the seventh with Brogan at the helm.   The team is set to face Maple City Glen Lake at 4:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.   “It’s obviously pretty exciting for everyone,” Brogan said. “The nerves are up. The butterflies will be up. That’s human nature.”   So the key, Brogan said, is trying to keep everything in perspective, and somewhat normal, as impossible as that may be.   The Titans practiced at the Michigan State University indoor facility Tuesday and then did likewise at the University of Michigan Wednesday as they prep for the indoor feel, and noise, Ford Field will offer.   “What we’re trying to do is make the focus of Friday the fact we’re playing for a state championship, not that we’re playing at Ford Field,” Brogan said.…

The Mississauga, Ontario native was named the Crossroad League's Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season and has anchored a defense that has posted nine shutouts. Lumen’s final challenge comes on biggest stage under brightest lights

By Mike Moore Staff Writer   Jackson — A total of 16 teams remain.   It is, without question, a select group of the finest football teams the 2016 season could produce.   And for the first time since 2009, Lumen Christi finds itself as part of the party.   “Really, our goal from the start of the season was to start winning and not stop,” coach Herb Brogan said simply.   To Brogan’s point, this was, you may remember, a team that started the season with two losses in its first three games.   Since then, the Titans are 10-0 and on quite the roll right now.   “Everyone says these guys are on a mission, and I don’t know if that’s really the case or not,” Brogan said. “What I see, is we have a team that’s improved one week to the next. We’ve gotten better, and because of it, played better every time out.”   There’s only one more chance to do that this fall, on the biggest of stages and under the brightest of lights, Friday at 4:30 p.m. in a Division 6 state final against Maple City Glen Lake at Ford Field.   “Very strong…
