Spring Arbor’s AJ Gruttadauro wins CL Track Athlete of the Week
SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – AJ Gruttadauro (Brockport, NY / Brockport) of the Spring Arbor University track and field team has been named the Crossroads League Men’s Track Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 8, announced the league office Monday. At the Cumberlands Invitational on Saturday, Gruttadauro recorded the fastest 5000-meter race walk time in the NAIA this year. The Brockport, New York native crossed the finish line in 22:05.07 to win the event while also punching his ticket to the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships with the NAIA A standard time. Spring Arbor will travel to Adrian, Michigan on Thursday, Apr. 13 for the Don Kleinow Invitational, hosted by Siena Heights University.

Severe Thunderstorm Potential
Consumers Energy is preparing for the possibility of damaging storms this afternoon. This morning’s scattered storms across portions of Michigan will be followed by a more organized line of strong and potentially severe thunderstorms entering the southwest part of the state by 4 p.m. today. Jackson Alum Selected for MIAA Field Award
Albion College sophomores Rayshawn Robinson and Nia Thomas have been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Field Athletes of the Week, Sheila Blackman, the league’s Director of Media Relations, announced Monday afternoon. Robinson, a Jackson High School product, achieved a personal record of 148’ 6” to win the javelin throw in the Charles Gray Invitational at Alma College last Saturday. That throw currently ranks him second in the MIAA. Robinson also finished fourth in the triple jump at 40’ 4” and sixth in the long jump at 19’ ¾”. He is ranked among the top six in the MIAA in both jumping events at this point of the season. Thomas, from Honolulu, Hawai’i, achieved personal records in the triple jump (34’ 1 ½”) and 100 meters (13.02) in the meet at Alma. She was the top Division III performer in the triple jump, finishing behind a pair of athletes from Central Michigan University. She also completed in the long jump (17’ 2 ¼”) and 4x100 relay at Alma. Elaine Building to Receive Governor’s Award for Historic Preservation
Rehabilitation of the Peoples National Bank Building in Jackson -- long known as The Elaine Apartments -- has earned praise for developer Bob Jacobson and LC Consultants LLC, who made the property more accessible for residents. Governor Rick Snyder and Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) Executive Director Earl Poleski announced the project as one of the recipients of this year’s Governor’s Awards for Historic Preservation. “Historic preservation and the protection of our cultural resources is vital to our economic development, our sense of place, and our identity as Michiganders,” Gov. Snyder said. “Each May, during National Historic Preservation Month, we recognize the people and organizations who preserve Michigan’s historic buildings and archaeological sites.” The former bank building, which first opened in November 1865, was renovated as affordable senior housing in 1971. LC Consultants LLC recognized that the space lacked amenities that make life easier and more pleasant for its senior residents and used Federal Historic Preservation Tax Credits to rehabilitate the building. The project added those important amenities and created 33 residential units, a community area and commercial space.
