Mostly Sunny Today, Showers Developing Tonight

A low pressure system will track across Lower Michigan tonight into Wednesday morning. This will bring  scattered showers to the area this afternoon with showers and a few thunderstorms tonight. The showers may linger into the mid morning hours of Wednesday. Thursday should be a pleasant sort of day with partly cloudy skies and highs in the 80s. We still expect our heat wave over the weekend with high in the lower to mid 90s and heat index values in near 100. It now looks like a cold front may come through the area Sunday evening or early Monday. That will bring the threat of afternoon thunderstorms Sunday and bring slightly cooler temperatures Monday and Tuesday. Today Mostly sunny, with a high near 82. Southeast wind 7 to 11 mph. Tonight Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 10pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after midnight. Cloudy, with a low around 66. East southeast wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Dubbed Light Up The City: Jackson, this new initiative aims to encourage residents to help create a safer community by working together, walking the streets and encouraging residents to turn on porch lights. The campaign is championed by Consumers Energy, law enforcement, community groups and business leaders, with a mission of building a safer neighborhood. Consumers Energy will be providing LED light bulbs and local volunteers will be packing those bulbs into bags with other safety materials and handing them out for free across Jackson. “It’s no secret that two of the big problems we face as a city are lighting and crime. This initiative aims at tackling both with partnerships in the business community and volunteer citizens who are leaning in to building a brighter, safer future for our city,” said Arlene Robinson, City of Jackson vice mayor and first ward city councilwoman. “People are the greatest resource for a safe environment and I am excited to see what we can do together for Jackson.” This year, the City plans to organize volunteers to distribute those bags…
