Adrian College Playing Fall Sports Despite MIAA Postponement

(July 30, 2020 4:01 PM) The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) Presidents’ Council has announced that fall sports will be postponed until spring. MIAA member school Adrian College announced today it is still planning to play an athletic schedule in all of its fall sports programs.  Adrian College is planning full seasons for all fall sports including football, bass fishing, bowling, competitive cheerleading, cross-country, equestrian, golf, tennis, rowing, soccer and volleyball. In light of the MIAA’s announcement, Adrian College athletics has initiated the process of developing independent schedules for fall sports. Michael Duffy, Adrian College’s athletic director, is working to identify interested colleges. “We’ve reached out to other institutions who are also looking to engage in competition this fall,” Duffy said. “More information will come on these modified schedules as it is available.” Adrian College’s COVID-19 task force has been working for several months creating its preparedness plan, which is posted on the College website. Adrian College will follow the NCAA recommendations outlined in the “Resocialization of Collegiate Sport: Developing Standards for Practice and Competition” document. Michigan Reports 715 Coronavirus Cases Today, State Total Now 80,887

(July 30, 2020 3:49 PM) Michigan reported 715 coronavirus (COVID-19) positive test cases today, with the state reported total now at 80,887. The State of Michigan is reporting 19* COVID-19-related deaths today, with the state total now at 6,191. *The deaths announced today includes 14 deaths identified during a Vital Records review. Jackson County Cumulative Report: 645 COVID-19 Positive Cases and 32 Deaths

(July 30, 2020 12:19 PM) The Jackson County Health Department released the COVID-19 positive numbers for Jackson County.  As of 12 PM today, there are 645 positive cases (cumulative), and 32 deaths (cumulative)*.     There are 14 new cases since yesterday’s report.  The Jackson County Health Department reports the increases this week are the result of large gatherings, people both inside and out, not practicing recommended safety measures (social distancing, wearing of masks, etc.). Cumulative recovered, as of July 24, 2020:  445** The Michigan Department of Corrections is reporting as of 8:45 PM Sunday, July 26, there are 1,461 confirmed positive cases at Jackson facilities and 158 confirmed positive staff cases.
