I-94 Project Update: Cooper Street Bridge Work Starting July 30

(July 28, 2020 5:04 PM) The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will perform various work activities on the Cooper Street bridge over eastbound I-94. This work is part of the ongoing I-94 Corridor Project. Starting on July 30 at 9 p.m. though July 31 at 5 AM, eastbound I-94 will be closed at Cooper Street for crews to remove construction materials. Traffic will be detoured to the eastbound I-94 Cooper Street off ramp and back on to the Cooper Street eastbound I-94. On July 31 and Aug. 3-6, there will be daytime (9 AM to 3 PM) single lane closures along eastbound I-94 between Lansing Avenue and Elm Avenue. Crews will be performing surface coating and installing lighting on the Cooper Street bridge. In the upcoming week, crews will continue reconstructing the median of I-94 by pouring a concrete barrier wall on westbound and eastbound I-94. Additionally, from Elm Avenue to Sargent Road, the contractor is working on grading and placing a concrete base course in the median. Maintenance of traffic for this upcoming week will include, traffic being maintained on I-94 with a “split-merge” configuration and reduced speed zones along I-94 between Sargent Road and Elm Avenue. Michigan Reports 669 Coronavirus Cases Today, State Total Now 79,176

(July 28, 2020 3:24 PM) Michigan reported 669 coronavirus (COVID-19) positive test cases today, with the state reported total now at 79,176. The State of Michigan is reporting 16* COVID-19-related deaths today, with the state total now at 6,170. *The deaths announced today includes 11 deaths identified during a Vital Records review. See cumulative data page for more information. State Cumulative Total of Recovered COVID-19 Cases (as of 7/24/2020): 57,502.  This information is updated daily at 3 p.m., with COVID-19 results included as of 10 a.m.

LEO Launches Digital Hub to Help Michigan Workers Displaced by COVID-19 Crisis Boost Skill

Timothy DeWitt Named New President/Executive Director Jackson Catholic Schools

(July 28, 2020 12:24 PM) Most Reverend Earl Boyea, Bishop of the Diocese of Lansing, has named Mr. Timothy DeWitt of Jackson as the new President of Lumen Christi Catholic School and Executive Director of the  Jackson Catholic Schools system. Mr. DeWitt has an extensive background with organizational leadership, strategic planning, financial analysis and treasury management. Since 2008, he has served Albion College in various aspects as the Chief Financial Officer, Chief Risk Officer, Chief Investment Officer, Budget Director, and Treasurer. Prior to his work in higher education, Mr. DeWitt served as a Senior Vice President for La Salle Bank and Financial Planning and Analysis Manager for Borders Group, Inc. “I am honored to serve as the next president and executive director,” said DeWitt upon his appointment of being announced. “My professional journey has allowed me to have hands-on experience transforming the financial health and operation of an international bank as well as an institution of higher learning. Jackson County Cumulative Report: 612 COVID-19 Positive Cases and 32 Deaths

(July 28, 2020 12:04 PM) The Jackson County Health Department released the COVID-19 positive numbers for Jackson County.  As of 12 PM today, there are 612 positive cases (cumulative), and 32 deaths (cumulative)*.     There are 5 new cases since yesterday’s report.  Today’s report includes the first coronavirus death since July 6. Cumulative recovered, as of July 24, 2020:  445** The Michigan Department of Corrections is reporting as of 8:45 PM Sunday, July 26, there are 1,461 confirmed positive cases at Jackson facilities and 158 confirmed positive staff cases. As of 2 PM July 22, there are 5 persons at Henry Ford Allegiance Health being treated as inpatients for COVID-19. *These numbers do not reflect any cases or deaths identified through Michigan Department of Corrections.  Their numbers are listed under a separate category for MDOC cases here:   Michigan Statistics.
