Most Jackson College Fall Sports Moving to Winter

(July 15, 2020 8:33 AM) Following recommendations from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Presidential Advisory Council and Board of Regents, the NJCAA has announced its adjusted plan of action for the upcoming 2020-21 academic year. Following the Board of Regents' vote on Monday, a majority of competition will be moved to the second semester, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This plan shifts all close-contact fall sports to the winter 2021 semester. Jackson College’s men’s and women’s cross-country team will still compete in the traditional fall semester, while men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, baseball, softball, bowling and golf will begin in the second semester. No changes have been made to the esports schedule. All winter sports competitions will begin in January, with a majority of championship seasons moved from March to April. For Jackson College, this will include men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball. Men’s and women’s bowling will also start in January with championships in March. Spring sports competitions remain intact with minor adjustments to dates. This will include men’s golf, baseball, and softball. Men’s and women’s soccer will begin competition in April. Along with the adjustments to competition season and championship dates, the…

COVID Delayed Tax Filing Deadline is Today

(July 15, 2020 7:11 AM) With taxpayers required to either e-file or mail their federal and state income tax returns by midnight tonight, the Michigan Department of Treasury has some tips to help last-minute filers submit an accurate return. Due to COVID-19, the original filing deadline and tax payment due date for 2019 was postponed from April 15 to July 15 by the State of Michigan and the Internal Revenue Service. To ensure an accurate income tax return is filed with the state of Michigan: File electronically. Taxpayers can go to www.michigan.gov/mifastfile to learn more about e-filing options. Mail a paper return to the right address. To avoid processing delays, paper filers should carefully follow tax form instructions when sending a paper return to a specific address. Fill in all requested information clearly. When entering information on the tax return, take the time to ensure information is accurate and easy to read. Review all figures. While software catches and prevents many errors on e-filed returns, math errors remain common on paper returns. Get the right routing and account numbers. Requesting direct deposit of a state tax refund is convenient and enables the taxpayer to access their money faster. Make sure the financial institution’s routing and account numbers…

Governor Whitmer Extends Executive Order Allowing Remote Education and Supervision for Pharmacists

(July 14, 2020 9:24 PM)  Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed Executive Order 2020-152 extending a provision of her earlier COVID-19 emergency order on pharmacies that allows student pharmacists to continue training under remote supervision. The order also scales back other provisions of that order that waived aspects of the Public Health Code in order to give pharmacies more flexibility and operational capacity to cope with the enhanced demands of COVID-19.  “Michigan has made incredible progress in slowing the spread of COVID-19, but we are not out of the woods yet. Our pharmacists are on the front lines serving as an integral part of our fight against COVID-19, and we must continue to ensure they have the support they need,” said Governor Whitmer, “By allowing student pharmacies to continue their education and supervision remotely, we can maintain talent in a safe and efficient way.”    Executive Order 2020-152 suspends strict compliance with any statute or regulation inconsistent with the order and allows preceptors to supervise student pharmacists remotely to fulfill eligibility for licensure and avoid delaying graduation.   Information around this outbreak is changing rapidly. The latest information is available at Michigan.gov/Coronavirus and CDC.gov/Coronavirus.  To view Executive Order 2020-152, click the link below:   EO 2020-152 Emerg order - pharmacies.pdf
