Jackson College Student-athletes Make the Grade with NJCAA, MCCAA Academic Awards
(July 16, 2020 4:05 PM) The Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) and the National Junior College Athletic Association announced the 2019-20 NJCAA and MCCAA Academic Award winners this week. Jackson College has seven teams earn both MCCAA and NJCAA All-Academic Team honors, with 75 individual Jets student-athletes receiving recognition. To earn team honors, a team must have a cumulative GPA for all athletes of 3.0 or higher. “I am very proud of the work our student-athletes put in on and off the court. In this unprecedented time, they have shown they are truly students first with their grit and resiliency to excel in the classroom. I am excited to see what we can do this upcoming semester,” said Courtney Ivan, executive director for athletics and student development. As of 12 PM today, there are 542 positive cases (cumulative), and 31 deaths (cumulative)*. There are 5 new cases since yesterday’s report. The Michigan Department of Corrections is reporting as of 3 PM Sunday, July 13, there are 1,608 confirmed positive cases at Jackson facilities and 157 confirmed positive staff cases. As of 7 AM July 8, there are 2 persons at Henry Ford Allegiance Health being treated inpatient for COVID-19. New Eviction Diversion Program Offers $50 Million in Relief for Renters, Landlords
(July 16, 2020 11:05 AM) A new program administered by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) in collaboration with Michigan Supreme Court and Department of Health and Human Services will help renters who have fallen behind on their payments due to COVID-19 and their landlords who want to recoup missed payments. The Eviction Diversion Program (EDP) launched today to coincide with Wednesday’s end of the state eviction moratorium, which had temporarily halted residential eviction for missed rent payments. As part of the program, an allocation of $50 million was set aside to help tenants and landlords resolve eviction filings with conditional dismissals. Tenants making up to 100% of area median income are eligible for the rental assistance. Participating landlords can receive up to 90% of a tenant’s unpaid rent in one lump sum. In exchange, landlords must dismiss all late fees, up to 10% of the amount due, and allow tenants to stay in their homes. “At a time filled with a lot of uncertainty, the Eviction Diversion Program offers some peace of mind for tenants and landlords,” said Kelly Rose, MSHDA’s chief housing solutions officer. “We understand how important housing is as a foundation for success in many…
