Gov. Whitmer Signs Bill Extending the Expiration of Driver’s Licenses, State ID Cards, Vehicle Registrations to Sept. 30

UPDATE by Governor's office, changing the date of expiration from February to March. (UPDATED July 1, 2020 4:33 PM) Today, Governor Whitmer signed Senate Bills 876-878, which codify her previous Executive Orders , further extending the renewal dates for driver’s licenses, CDLs, state ID cards and vehicle registrations. Among the extensions outlined in the legislation, those with driver’s licenses or vehicle registrations expiring after March 1 have until September 30, 2020 to have them renewed.   “I am pleased to continue to work with the Legislature to codify significant Executive Orders that help Michiganders cope with the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Governor Whitmer. “These bills will give Michigan residents peace of mind and reduce the amount of person to person interaction necessary when renewing licenses and registrations.”    “We are grateful for the support of the Legislature and Governor Whitmer in our work to ensure essential transactions can be conducted in our branch offices in a way that balances the health of staff and customers with the needs of Michigan drivers,” said Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson. “We have been continually assessing the safest way to maintain branch operations and this legislation will go a long way toward those efforts.”   Many transactions, including…

Jackson County Cumulative Report: 492 COVID-19 Positive Cases and 29 Deaths

(July, 1 2020 12:17 PM) The Jackson County Health Department released the COVID-19 positive numbers for Jackson County.  As of 12 PM today, there are 492 positive cases (cumulative), and 29 deaths (cumulative)*.     There are 8 new cases since yesterday’s report.  No new deaths have been reported since June 7. Cumulative recovered** patients (cumulative): 417 (updated weekly, as of June 26). The Michigan Department of Corrections is reporting as of 3 PM Tuesday, June 30, there are 1,605 confirmed positive cases are at Jackson facilities, 156 Confirmed Positive Jackson staff. As of 9 AM on Wednesday, July 1, there is 1 individual with positive COVID-19 results who is inpatient at Henry Ford Allegiance Health.  *These numbers do not reflect any cases or deaths identified through Michigan Department of Corrections.  Their numbers are listed under a separate category "Others" for the Michigan Statistics. **Recovered is defined as the number of persons with a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis who are alive 30 days post-onset (or referral date if onset is not available). Governor Whitmer Signs Bill for Supplemental Funding to Support COVID-19 Response

(July 1, 2020 11:51 AM) Today, Governor Whitmer signed Senate Bill 690, which appropriates nearly $880 million in federal funding to support various COVID-19 response actions across the state.    The supplemental budget includes a number of provisions that allow assist Michigan in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, help small business weather the difficult economic conditions created by COVID-19, and ensure that workers who put themselves at risk on the frontlines are fairly compensated, including:  A $2/hour increase for direct care workers;  $125 million in grant funding to reduce the cost of child care for families;  $100 million for hazard pay for local first responders and $200 million for local units of government;  $100 million in small business restart grants;  $60 million in rental assistance and eviction diversion;  $25 million for wireless hotspots and enhanced connectivity;  $18 million for health and safety grants for schools;  $10 million in MIOSHA grants for protections to keep workers safe on the job;  and $14 million for food banks and domestic violence shelters.  “I was pleased to sign this bill to put more federal funding to work across our state,” said Governor Whitmer. “Between the signing of this bill today and the recent agreement on…

MDOC: 1,605 Confirmed Positive Cases at Jackson Facilities, 156 Confirmed Positive Jackson Staff

(July 1, 2020 7:24 AM) The Michigan Department of Corrections is reporting as of 2 PM Thursday, June 25, there are 4,015 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases at facilities throughout the state.  Of that statewide total, 1,605 of the confirmed positive cases are at Jackson facilities. In Jackson, there are 505 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases at Parnall Correctional Facility, 298 at Charles E. Egeler Reception and Guidance Center, 69 at Duane Waters Health Center and 733 at G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility.  Among staff, there are a total of 376 COVID-19 positive cases statewide.   In Jackson, there are 74 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases among employees at Parnall Correctional Facility, 2 at Cooper Street Correctional Facility, 37 at Charles E. Egeler Reception and Guidance Center, 40 at G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility and 3 at Jackson Regional Warehouse. There have been a total of 68 deaths (statewide) of prisoners who had tested positive for COVID-19, 22 of those deaths were among prisoners at Jackson facilities.  The most recent death, reported on June 2, was of a prisoner who had originally been housed at G.
