MDOC: 1,461 Confirmed Positive Cases at Jackson Facilities, 158 Confirmed Positive Jackson Staff
(July 27, 2020 6:29 AM) The Michigan Department of Corrections is reporting as of 8:45 PM Sunday, July 26, there are 3,874 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases at facilities throughout the state. Of that statewide total, 1,461 of the confirmed positive cases are at Jackson facilities. In Jackson, there are 297 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases at Parnall Correctional Facility, 375 at Charles E. Egeler Reception and Guidance Center, 18 at Duane Waters Health Center and 771 at G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility. Among staff, there are a total of 393 COVID-19 positive cases statewide. In Jackson, there are 74 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases among employees at Parnall Correctional Facility, 3 at Cooper Street Correctional Facility, 37 at Charles E. Egeler Reception and Guidance Center, 41 at G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility and 3 at Jackson Regional Warehouse. There have been a total of 68 deaths (statewide) of prisoners who had tested positive for COVID-19, 22 of those deaths were among prisoners at Jackson facilities. The Michigan Department of Corrections is listed as a separate jurisdiction in the daily MDHHS report of positive cases in the state. All other cases are reported by county. By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (July 16, 2020 4:27 PM) Jackson area golfer Steve Maddalena says he enjoys playing Ella Sharp Golf Course because of the challenging greens and pin placements. When you hit irons like Maddalena, the challenge is minimized at time. He shot a pair of 67s for an 8-under-par total to win the Joe Fiero Memorial City Senior Championship at Ella Sharp Park Golf Course over the weekend. It is the fourth title at the event for Maddalena, first winning it in 2011. Mark Kurzynowski finished second with a 5-under-par total for 137; Greg Zeller placed third at 141; and Mike Raymond, Jim Coutu, and Todd Marston each tied for fourth at 144. Zeller had won the event the two previous years. Maddalena said he plays at Sharp Park twice a year but enjoys the course. “I enjoy playing the short golf course because you have to hit a lot of golf shots,” Maddalena said following his win. “The greens are challenging … you have to…

The State of Michigan is reporting 0 COVID-19-related deaths today, with the state total remains at 6,149*. The last time no deaths were reported was July 5. *Note on daily confirmed cases (7/26/20): As reported yesterday, messaging system issues resulted in the delay of laboratory result referrals from Friday evening through Saturday morning. The issue has been resolved and the back-logged referrals have been processed. (July 25, 2020 11:29 PM) Michigan reported 437 coronavirus (COVID-19) positive test cases today, with the state reported total now at 76,978. The State of Michigan is reporting 14** COVID-19-related deaths today, with the state total now at 6,149*. *During a data quality assessment review of deaths, manual data entry errors were discovered, leading to a decrease of 16 in the cumulative death total. The errors in death ascertainment occurred during local case investigations and involved mistakenly indicating individuals as being deceased who were not. This adjustment affects the cumulative death totals for impacted counties and statewide. Reviews are being conducted as part of ongoing efforts to ensure data quality and accurate case and death reporting in Michigan. **The deaths announced today includes 8 deaths identified during a Vital Records review.
