April 1 Light It Up Blue Jackson.  Join the Jackson Autism Support Network for "Light It Up Blue Jackson" on April 1 at the Lean Rocket Lab, from 6-8 pm.  April is Autism Awareness Month and for the month, area businesses will be “Lighting Up Blue” to bring awareness to autism.  Tonight, the Jackson Autism Support Network will be hosting an evening of fun with special needs games, crafts, and parent resources.  Gift giveaways, autism merchandise for sale.  Live music, refreshments, and popcorn.  At dusk, a bubble and streamer launch as the County Tower Building lights up blue.  Lean Rocket Lab, 133 West Michigan Avenue, Jackson. Jackson County Cumulative Report: 39,340 COVID-19 Positive Cases and 548 Deaths

(March 31, 2022 1:55 PM)  The Jackson County Health Department released the COVID-19 positive numbers for Jackson County.  As of 12:00 PM today, there are 39,340 positive cases (cumulative), and 548 deaths (cumulative)*.   There are 10 new cases since yesterday’s report. Henry Ford Health continues to see a decline in COVID cases across all their hospitals, reaching the lowest COVID-19 inpatient numbers in nearly two years (32 cases). Henry Ford Jackson Hospital is in the low single digits for cases. This will be Henry Ford Health’s last update about COVID numbers unless there is a significant rise in cases.  The Jackson County Health Department has announced a change in reporting effective Oct. 6, 2021.  Cases defined as probable will be reported in cumulative case and death counts.  As additional methods of testing besides the PCR test have become more common, the amount of cases classified as probable has increased and are included to provide a more accurate picture of disease in our community.  Cumulative recovered, as of March 31:  38,521** The cumulative numbers posted on Mondays include the data from Saturday, Sunday and Monday.  Recovered numbers are being posted as received.  *These numbers do not reflect any cases or…

Jackson Plans First Meeting of Affordable Housing Development Board

(March 31, 2022 10:09 AM) The first meeting of the City of Jackson’s Affordable Housing Development Board (AHDB) is scheduled for Tuesday, April 5. The board’s goal is to create and maintain affordable housing options in the City of Jackson.  City leaders say Jackson residents will see major improvements to affordable housing thanks to the new board.  The AHDB was founded in Nov. 2021 by the City Council to help with the need for more affordable housing in Jackson. The board will use $3.5 million in American Rescue Plan funds set aside in an Affordable Housing Fund to preserve and develop affordable housing in the City of Jackson. It will also advise City staff and elected officials on housing initiatives. The board is comprised of five Jackson residents and three ex-officios appointed by the City Council for set terms. MDHHS Announces Second Booster Doses Authorized for Ages 50 and Older and 12+ if Immunocompromised

(March 30, 2022 3:55 PM) Following the U.S. Food and Drug Administration authorization and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendation, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) announces that all Michiganders ages 50 and up and moderately or severely immunocompromised individuals over age 12 may choose to receive a second booster vaccine. Pfizer is the only COVID-19 vaccine currently authorized for those under age 18. COVID-19 booster doses may be given at the same time as other vaccines, including the flu vaccine. Four months after receipt of a first booster dose, the following are now authorized and individuals may choose to receive: A second booster dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine may be administered to individuals 50 years of age and older. A second booster dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine may be administered to moderately or severely immunocompromised individuals 12 years of age and older. A second booster dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine may be administered to moderately or severely immunocompromised individuals 18 years of age and older. Michigan Reports 1,550* Coronavirus Cases, State Total Now 2,078,951

(March 30, 2022 3;41 PM)  Michigan reported 1,550* coronavirus (COVID-19) positive test cases today, with the state reported total now at 2,078,951. Michigan is reporting 72** COVID-19-related deaths today with the state total at 32,830.   *Note on cases (03/30/2022): Today's daily case count represents new referrals of confirmed cases to the MDSS since the last web update report.  Over the two days (Tuesday and Wednesday), the average number of new confirmed cases is 775 per day. **The deaths announced today includes 74 deaths identified during a Vital Records review. See cumulative data page for more information. Information is updated Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 3 p.m., with COVID-19 results included as of 10 a.m.    The MDHHS today announced that starting the week of April 4, 2022, data will be updated in the following way: Case and death data will be updated once per week on Wednesdays. Case and death data will be inclusive of both confirmed and probable cases and deaths. The cumulative county COVID-19 case rate map wil be replaced with a map of the CDC COVID-19 community levels and will be refreshed on Fridays.
