Rose Parade to Return with New Route

(March 30, 2022 3:12 PM) The Jackson County Rose Festival today announced the Jackson County Rose Parade will return for 2022. The parade, last held in 2019 was suspended for the past two years due to the pandemic.  Festival organizers announced the parade will be held on Sunday, June 5th in Downtown Jackson. New this year, the parade will run a different route, the same as the Downtown Jackson Christmas Parade route.  Starting at Blackstone Street, the Parade will travel east on Michigan Avenue and conclude at One Energy Plaza. For the past several years, the parade traveled from downtown Jackson, down Greenwood and Fourth, ending at the Middle School at Parkside. Jim Francis, President of the Jackson County Rose Festival said, “The parade is back, we are all healing in the community from the COVID restrictions and want people to have fun again in Downtown Jackson.”  Francis said Art Moehn Auto Group is generously returning as title sponsor and the theme this year is The Roaring 20’s.  The Festival is inviting food trucks to Horace Blackman Park and is planning activities during and…

Jackson County Cumulative Report: 39,330 COVID-19 Positive Cases and 548 Deaths

(March 30, 2022 3:00 PM)  The Jackson County Health Department released the COVID-19 positive numbers for Jackson County.  As of 12:00 PM today, there are 39,330 positive cases (cumulative), and 548 deaths (cumulative)*.   There are 11 new cases since yesterday’s report. The Jackson County Health Department has announced a change in reporting effective Oct. 6, 2021.  Cases defined as probable will be reported in cumulative case and death counts.  As additional methods of testing besides the PCR test have become more common, the amount of cases classified as probable has increased and are included to provide a more accurate picture of disease in our community.  Cumulative recovered, as of March 30:  38,507** The cumulative numbers posted on Mondays include the data from Saturday, Sunday and Monday.  Recovered numbers are being posted as received.  *These numbers do not reflect any cases or deaths identified through Michigan Department of Corrections.  Their numbers are listed under a separate category and reported by the state at Michigan Statistics. County National Bank Announces Promotions John R. Waldron, President and CEO of County National Bank (“CNB”), is pleased to announce the recent promotion of several members of the CNB team. Ray Briner has been promoted to Commercial Loan Officer. Ray joined County National Bank in August of 2009 and has 12 years of banking experience. He served CNB as a credit analyst and transitioned to the senior analyst position before moving into the Commercial Loan Department as a lender. Ray has served our commercial clients well, and was instrumental in assisting clients with Paycheck Protection Program loans throughout both phases of the program. Spring Break Planetarium Show: From Earth to the Universe.  March 28 - April 1.  11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.  Hurst Planetarium at Ella Sharp Museum.  The night sky, both beautiful and mysterious, has inspired awe and been the subject of campfire stories, and ancient myths for as long as there have been people. A desire to comprehend the Universe may well be humanity’s oldest shared intellectual experience. Yet only recently have we truly begun to grasp our place in the vast cosmos. To learn about this journey of celestial discovery, from the theories of the ancient Greek astronomers to today’s grandest telescopes, we invite you to experience From Earth to the Universe.  This program is presented in collaboration with the Jackson Symphony Orchestra. MHSAA Approves Expanded Basketball Schedules, Adds Track & Field Opportunities for Wheelchair Athletes

(March 29, 2022 10:53 AM) An increase in the number of regular-season games high school basketball teams are allowed to play may be the most visible action taken by the Representative Council of the Michigan High School Athletic Association during its annual Winter Meeting on March 25 in East Lansing. However, a change in classification procedure expected to bring more equity to tournament groupings should have the most far-reaching effects across all sports. The Winter Meeting frequently serves as an opportunity for the Council to discuss items expected to come up for action at its final meeting of the school year, scheduled for May 1-2. However, the Council took a number of actions at this meeting as they relate to scheduling currently underway for the 2022-23 school year, or Spring tournaments this May. The Council approved a Basketball Committee proposal that will allow, beginning with the 2022-23 season, high school basketball teams to play up to 22 regular-season games at every level (varsity, junior varsity and freshman). Teams previously played a maximum of 20 games during the regular season; this adjustment brings MHSAA school schedules in line with what is allowed in most other Midwest states.
