MHSAA Football Playoffs Friday, 7 p.m.  Division 3 Jackson 26, Western 25 Division 7 Lumen Christi 41, Homer 6 Napoleon 49, Erie Mason 0 Manchester 22, Grass Lake 19 Division 8 Ottawa Lake Whiteford 64, Addison 22 Boys Cross Country Regionals Division 1 Huron Meadows Metro Park: Jackson High School finished 15th as a team with 442 points. Andrew England finished 65th for the Vikings in a time of 18:18.  Division 3 Ella Sharp Park, Jackson: Hanover-Horton High School won the regional with 71 points. Lumen Christi finished seventh (174), Columbia Central was 10th (243), Napoleon placed 11th (272), and Michigan Center was 14th (455). Rogan Melling of Hanover-Horton won the event in 16:28, Isaiah Dinverno of Lumen Christi was third in 16:42, teammate Gannon Shore was fourth in 16:48, Landon Boulis of Hanover-Horton was 11th in 17:24, and Evan Shepherd was 15th with a time of 17:31.  Division 4 Ella Sharp Park, Jackson: East Jackson High School finished fifth as a team – two spots out of qualifying for the state meet – with 109 points, Jackson Prep was seventh with 189, and Vandercook Lake placed 10th with 248 points. Al Glick Athletic Center to Benefit JPS Students, Football

Friday Football Feature  – A kickoff for your weekend high school football  By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (October 28, 2022 10:10 AM) Jackson High School sophomore Cyron Stamper would like to improve his 4.6 second time in the 40-yard dash. As a running back, speed is premium for the varsity player. Stamper and JPS students will all have a chance to improve in a number of ways thanks to the addition of the Al Glick Athletic Center just behind the high school. Administrators, builders, donors, and JPS faculty and well wishers helped kick off the Center on Wednesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The Center serves as a state-of-the-art facility that very few schools in Michigan have. “There are only three other schools who have facilities like this … we are fortunate,” JPS football player Koronnis Davis said. “I have already seen kids who don’t play sports in here.” JPS Superintendent said the facility would benefit all students in the district – pointing to the fact that the JPS and Western bands will be practicing in the facility before the Jackson/Western football game tonight.  The facility is part of an $11 million improvement in and around Withington Stadium. Volleyball Cascades Conference championship: Manchester High School won the Cascades Conference title at Michigan Center on Thursday. The Flying Dutchmen defeated the host schools 24-26, 25-22, and 25-23. Grass Lake defeated Napoleon in the third-place game; Addison defeated Hanover-Horton in the fifth-place contest; and East Jackson defeated Vandercook Lake in the seventh-place game. Manchester finished the season with 15.5 points, Michigan Center scored 14-5, Napoleon and Grass Lake tied for third place with 11 points, Addison took fifth place with 7.5, Hanover-Horton was sixth with 6.5, and Vandercook Lake and East Jackson tied for seventh with 3 points. Grass Lake was led by Olivia Turner and Adrianna Kline with 17 kills apiece, Abby Buttigieg finished with 29 digs, and Mia Buttigieg dished 47 assists in the tournament.  Concord at Onsted Quad: The Yellow Jackets went 1-2 on the night with a win over Jonesville, 21-25, 25-23, and 15-13. Iyla Weeks finished the night with 26 kills, Layla Hellard dished 38 assists, and Autumn Cornell finished with 13 digs for Concord.  Jackson at Hastings: The Vikings went 1-1 on the night with a win over Fruitport, 25-19 and 25-18, and a loss to the host schools, 25-21 and 25-18.  Kulayjah Weller…
