JPD Announces Employees of the Year

The Jackson Police Department presented their Employee of the Year Awards at the JPD Annual Awards Ceremony earlier this month. Employees were recognized for their exemplary performance and commitment to serving the citizens of Jackson.  Special recognition was awarded to the 2018 Employees of Year. Officer of the Year  -  Detective Richard Burkart Reserve Officer of the Year  -  Reserve Officer Christopher Mizner Civilian Employee of the Year  -  Records Management Supervisor KayCe Parsons Richard (Rick) Burkart was hired as an officer with the Department in 2007.  He was promoted to the rank of Detective in 2017.  Rick was also selected as the Officer of the Year in 2014.  Receiving this honor twice, demonstrates his professionalism and work ethic.  Above and beyond his regular duties, Rick is a current member of the Special Response Team, has served on the Jackson Narcotics Enforcement Team, and is a firearms and use of force instructor.  Christopher Mizner began his career as a Reserve Officer in 2017.  Christopher volunteered over 75 hours towards special events and over 250 total in 2018, including his time partnering with an officer on patrol.  Christopher’s dedication to the Department and to the community in his first full year…

Julia Lefere signs with Lawrence Tech

Julia Lefere has signed with Lawrence Tech. Julia will continue her golf career while at Lawrence Tech. Julia earned 4 varsity letters and competed in multiple State Finals at Northwest.  JTV Sports | May 21st, 2019 | Gabriel Schray Jackson, Michigan– Another pair of Jackson Area Athlete signings have been announced. Both of the Northwest Community School's athletes and their signings were announced yesterday. Senior Julia Lefere signed to continue her academic and athletic career at Lawrence Tech. Julia will continue to golf in college. Julia earned 4 varsity letters and competed in multiple State Finals while golfing at Northwest. Julia was also a 4 year soccer player for the Mounties soccer program.  Lawrence Technological University, frequently referred to as Lawrence Tech, is a private university in Southfield, Michigan. Jadin White signs with Concordia University

Jadin White has signed with Concordia University of Ann Arbor. Jadin will continue his football career while at Concordia. Jadin had a highly successful playing career in football at Northwest.  JTV Sports | May 21st, 2019 | Gabriel Schray Jackson, Michigan– Another pair of Jackson Area Athlete signings have been announced. Both of the Northwest Community School's athletes and their signings were announced yesterday. Senior Jadin White signed today to continue his academic and athletic career with Concordia in Ann Arbor. Jadin will be joining the Concordia football program. Concordia University of Ann Arbor is a private liberal arts university. Its 187-acre campus sits on the banks of the Huron River, about ten minutes outside downtown Ann Arbor. Concordia had an incredible season last year. They made it to the NAIA Football Championship Series Quarterfinal Round, where they fell 58-34 to Benedictine College. Jets Softball Sets Program Record for Wins

Jackson College Jets softball finished their season with a new program record for wins and a heartbreaking 11th-inning loss in the regional tournament. The Jets end the season 37-15 and set a new program record for wins. In their semi-final game in the NJCAA Region XII Championship, they were tied 2-2 with the Lansing Community College Stars from the sixth inning on, pushing the game to extra innings. Lansing scored in the bottom of the 11th inning to overtake the Jets 3-2, ending their season. “I am proud of this group’s accomplishments and look forward to seeing this program continue to grow!” said coach Jamie Vandenburgh. Several Jets players receive season honors: Allison LaPoint, pitcher, All-Tournament Team; All-Region, All-MCCAA Team; First Team All-Conference. LaPoint, of Holland, Ohio, pitched 16 wins and 5 losses in 25 appearances for the Jets this year, with a 2.13 ERA in 135 innings. She struck out 127 players. Koryn Playford, second-base/utility, First Team All-Conference; All-Freshman Team. Playford, of Jonesville, played in 52 games this year and had a batting average of .418, with 55 runs, 39 RBI and 2 home runs. Sabrina Sage, outfielder, Second Team All-Conference. American 1 Credit Union staff and board members with officials from Spring Arbor University inside The Arena Sponsored by American 1 Credit Union. American 1 Credit Union and Spring Arbor University unveiled a new partnership for the naming of their primary sports venue inside the newly christened McDonald Athletic Center at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, May 16, 2019. “The Arena Sponsored by American 1 Credit Union” will be the heart of the McDonald Athletic Center. A $250,000 gift to Spring Arbor University by American 1 Credit Union was approved by the American 1 Board of Directors for the renovation of the McDonald Athletic Center and the naming of The Arena. The $1.9 million renovation project focused on increased safety and functionality of the 42-year old facility, which is a center of activity on the Spring Arbor University campus.  Speaking at the ceremony, American 1 CEO Martha Fuerstenau remarked, “We are excited to partner with the University on this project because we think it’s a good idea to support what Spring Arbor University supports; that is, a community of intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and a passion for ethical service.  SAU graduates are perfect hires for American 1 Credit Union because…
