Spring Arbor University hosts Beyond, an all-night youth event

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. — Spring Arbor University will host Beyond, a special event for middle school students, on Friday, November 11, beginning at 7 p.m.  Beyond will create an atmosphere of fellowship and fun for middle school students, and will feature such activities as: worship and message, food and snacks, inflatables, movies, and basketball, volleyball, dodgeball, soccer and video game tournaments. Beyond is an annual and themed event, and is meant to spiritually engage middle school students in purposeful and meaningful ways. This year’s theme is Pressure, through which Beyond will help students explore their faith beyond the American dream, beyond the typical, and beyond the norm. The event will end Saturday morning, November 12, at 7 a.m. The Beyond event is designed and programmed by SAU youth ministry majors, with as many as 50 additional SAU students volunteering during the event. Students with Basic First Aid training will also be present during the event. Cost of attendance is $15 per person, and registration is required. Cascades Hosts Couples Golf & Comedy Night

Cascades Golf Course will be hosting a Couples Golf And Comedy Night featuring comedian Jay Harris on Friday, September 23.  Your're invited for an afternoon and evening of golf, dinner and comedy at Cascades Golf Course.   The format:  9 hole, 4 person scramble, followed by a catered dinner and entertainment featuring comedian Jay Harris.  You may sign up your own 4-some or sign up as a 2-some and Cascades will pair you with another couple.  Small prizes will be given to winning teams and for proximity contests. The shotgun start at 4:30, followed by dinner and entertainment, ending at approximately 9:00.  Cost: $80.00 per couple.  Includes 9 holes with cart, prizes, catered dinner, and entertainment.  Entry deadline:  September 19.  Space limited to the first 20 couples to sign up. Extreme Dodge Chrysler Jeep RAM Achieves FCA Customer First Award for Excellence

Less than 1 percent of FCA dealerships in the United States were given this elite status Last October, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) announced criteria for a new designation of car dealer – an elite status of Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, RAM and/or FIAT dealership that puts the customer first. Dealers around the nation (there are around 2,600 FCA dealerships in the US) were eligible to earn the inaugural Customer First Award for Excellence in 2016. Extreme Dodge Chrysler Jeep RAM was one of 124 dealers in the nation to receive the award. The program required dealers to fulfill very specific requirements relative to customer sales and vehicle service experience. The requirements were aligned with the following five “pillars of excellence.” Customer First Award Pillars of Excellence Facility – Customers consistently find dealerships to be clean, convenient and comfortable. Facilities are certified every six months. Customer Processes – Dealer consistently executes processes for key customer interaction points, such as sales negotiation, delivery and follow up. Performance – Dealer constantly achieves high level of satisfaction from customer sales and service satisfaction surveys. Baker College to Offer Career Exploration Open House

Baker College of Jackson will open its doors to the public, prospective students and students 4:30-7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 31, for a Career Exploration Open House at 2800 Springport Road, Jackson. The event will explore Baker College undergraduate programs that lead to careers with growing employment opportunities in the areas of: Business administration. Computer information systems. “MIS Cares” Grants Now Available

MIS Cares, the track’s charity arm, holds that same belief and continues to make a difference in the community with its grant program. The speedway provides a valuable fund-raising platform for future educational opportunities throughout the year. Now, organizations can apply to receive a grant up to $5,000 to aid in their efforts. In 2017 organizations in Lenawee and Jackson Counties are invited to apply for the MIS Cares Grant. The focus is to provide for those in the community that have a tie to youth programs or education. “We are excited to offer grants to local organizations to aid in their initiatives to promote education,” speedway President Roger Curtis said. “Our staff lives in the community and we continue to strive to give back to the area.” All organizations that are a 501(c)(3) entity may download an application now at www.miscares.com. A Thousand Horses and Drake White and The Big Fire added to Keloorah Lineup

BROOKLYN, Mich. – The lineup for Keloorah in August just got bigger. A Thousand Horses (attached photo) and Drake White and The Big Fire have been added to an already jammed packed festival schedule on August 26-27. United Way Receives FEMA Grant for Food, Shelter Needs

 United Way of Jackson County has been awarded $66,551 in federal funds to support food and shelter programs in high-need areas. The emergency funding is provided through the Emergency Food And Shelter National Board Program, administered by the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). United Way invites local governmental and private voluntary organizations that qualify to apply for these funds. To be considered, applying organizations must meet these criteria:  Hold current 501(c) 3 non-profit status;  Provide a Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) number and a Federal Employee Identification Number (FEIN);  Have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter;  Have no phase #32 or #33 compliance issues if they are current FEMA recipients;  Have an accounting system and conduct an annual audit; and  Practice nondiscrimination. In addition, private non-profit organizations must have a voluntary board of directors. To be considered for funding, proposals must be submitted to the United Way office, 536 N. St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea presents $100,000 to St. Louis Center

St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea recently made a $100,000 donation to the St. Louis Center, a residential facility serving children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities located in Chelsea, to support the design, development and implementation of an electronic health record and care management IT platform for its residents. "We are honored to be able to provide this financial gift so that the St. Louis Center can continue to provide a safe environment of care for some of our most vulnerable community members," said Nancy Graebner, President and CEO, St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea.  "We want to thank them for providing a safe and loving home in our community for more than 50 years, serving more than 700 men, women and children.  Electronic health records enable a patient's medical history to be more easily retained and shared across different health care settings to improve patient care. 46th Annual Rose Run July 16

The 46th Annual Rose Run is scheduled for Saturday, July 16 on the Jackson College Central Campus.  Sponsored by Orthopaedic Rehab Specialists, P.C., the Rose Run will again feature 10K and 5K runs, a 5K walk, and a Kids Run. Events will begin at 8 a.m. on the Jackson College campus. Adult events start and finish on the JC campus and follow a scenic course around the College. Awards will be presented to the top three finishers in each age group, in addition to overall, masters and grandmasters winners. All participants receive a T-shirt.   The cost for events is $25 in advance, $30 on race day. Kids Fun Run is $5 in advance, $7 on race day. Registration and packet pick-up will be available Friday evening from 5-7 p.m. and Saturday morning before 7:30 a.m. in the lobby of the Victor Cuiss Fieldhouse.
