Cass Takes Over Successful Homer Football Program

Nic Cass took over the head coaching position at Homer last spring after 13 years at Michigan Center. Cass had a little head start as he accepted a position teaching in the school district after spring break. He has been able to meet and greet players during the school day. “I was able to see the players every day and start building relationships,” Cass said during JTV’s Media Days. “The players have been very coachable.” Players agree on the fit as quarterback Parker Chamberlain said the school “couldn’t ask for anyone better” to fill the top football position. Chamberlain is expected to be one of the playmakers for Homer as a quarterback, receiver, and defensive back.  Senior linemen Kenyon Miller and Quentin Slaughter will provide the bulk for the Trojans.  Kayden George (WR/DB) and Alex Miller (RB/LB) are two seniors Homer will count on this season. Homer Looks to Continue Playoff Streak

By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (August 12, 2022 10:39 AM) The Homer High School varsity football team has made the Michigan High School Athletic Association playoffs for four consecutive seasons. The Trojans would like to add a fifth. Homer finished the regular season with a  5-4 record – earning its ninth MHSAA playoff appearance in 10 seasons.  Head Coach Brett Vernon said the Trojans need to be ready for power teams – during the regular season and the playoffs. “We have been deficient in the past when teams run power football,” Vernon said during the JTV Media Day. “We need to stand up, have grit, and defend against those teams.”  The Trojans didn’t struggle on offense, scoring 40 or more points in four of 10 games in 2022.
