By David Rice JTV Sports (October 30, 2020 10:46 PM)  In an unusual season of 2020, everybody makes the playoffs due to it being a 6-game regular season rather than a normal 9-game season. Sixteen Earn All-State Bowling Honors

By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (March 17, 2020 9:58 PM) Members of the Michigan High School Interscholastic Bowling Coaches Association agree that some of the best high school bowlers in the state reside from the Jackson Area. The coaches voted 16 bowlers as first or second team members. Jackson area bowlers won two team titles and two individual title nearly 10 days ago at the Michigan High School Athletic Association bowling finals at various locations around the state. Northwest High School won the MHSAA Division 2 boys’ team title at Waterford. The Mounties were the No. 2 seeds following qualifying. Northwest defeated Cadillac by 20 pins in the finals. Grass Lake High School easily won the Division 4 boys’ team title in Lansing. The Warriors were the top qualifying team and won three matches for the school’s second boys’ bowling title. East Jackson High School advanced to the final four in Division 4 girls’ team bowling and Manchester made the final four in boys’ Division 4 team bowling. Logan Teubert of Jonesville High School won the MHSAA individual title in Division 3.…

Three Area Wrestlers Earn State Individual Titles

By Jeff Steers JTV Sports Grass Lake High School wrestler Trenton Holden said he was getting “gassed” at the end of his matches last season. The junior went out and did something about it. It paid off Saturday. Holden won the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 4 state wrestling title at 160 pounds at Ford Field on Saturday afternoon. He finished the season with a 46-1 record. The Grass Lake junior was one of three local wrestlers earning state individual titles Saturday in the MHSAA finals. Springport wrestler Thomas Potter won the Division 4 title at 152 pounds and Simon Lato of Manchester claimed the top spot at 285 pounds. Holden said following his win over Nick Phillips in the D-4 finals that he changed his regiment this season after getting knocked out of the playoffs in the regional round last year. “I don’t have a training partner, so I had four coaches work with me,” Holden said. “Each one worked with me in a rotation.” That…

Four Earn All-State Cross Country Honors

By Jeff Steers JTV Sports Four local cross country runners earned all-state honors at the Michigan High School Athletic Association state finals held Saturday at Michigan International Speedway. A muddy course led to higher than normal times at the 5,000-meter course. Runners competed in the annual state finals in 40-degree weather and occasional rain. In Division 4, Concord High School runner Skylar Thompson earned all-state honors for a third consecutive year. She finished 14th individually as a freshman and sophomore. Saturday, she finished in 19 minutes, 38 seconds finishing fifth overall. “My goal was to finish in the top seven,” Thompson said. “It was pretty muddy, but not as bad as I though. “During warmup we talked about which side of the course to run on.” In Division 3, three local runners earned all-state honors by finishing in the top 30. Lumen Christi Catholic High School runners Renae Kutcha finished 20th and Faith Smith was 22nd in 19:34 and 19:35 respectively. “I…
