Lumen Defeats Homer to Open Playoffs

By Jeff Steers JTV Sports Lumen Christi Catholic High School captain Keegan Smith reminded his teammates that Clinton High School was 9-0 coming into the playoffs this week. And the Redskins lost in the first round to Riverview Gabriel Richard. In other words, nothing is guaranteed for the three-time defending state champions from Lumen Christi. The Titans opened defense of their state title with a 42-14 win against Homer to open the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 7 playoffs. Lumen Christi is playing one division lower this season – based on the number of students enrolled in their schools. The Titans improved to 9-0 and Homer fell to 7-3 with the loss. But LCCHS Coach Herb Brogan knows the road ahead will not be easy. “You have to be ready to play every week,” Brogan said. “There are a lot of good teams in Division 7.” The Titans were dominant in the first half, rushing for more than 250 yards in the first half and…

Hanover-Horton Dominates XC Regionals

By Jeff Steers JTV Sports Normally top-end runners have a chance to race against others with similar times once or twice a season. Lumen Christi Catholic High School cross country runner Faith Smith gets the opportunity to face top-notch competition every day in practice. Smith and teammate Renae Kutcha finished first and second respectively at the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3 regional on Friday afternoon at Ella Sharp Park in Jackson. The top finishes helped the Titans earn a trip to the MHSAA finals next Saturday at Michigan International Speedway with a second-place finish in the girls’ event. The day belonged to Hanover-Horton High School who easily won the boys’ competition and edged LCCHS in the girls’ D-3 team event. The Comets scored 40 points in the boys’ race, Jonesville finished second at 102, and Napoleon third with 122. All three teams advance to the state finals. County National Bank Donates $6,500 for Homer Trojans Scoreboard

​County National Bank (CNB) has contributed $6,500 for a new scoreboard at Homer Community Schools. The previous scoreboard had been in operation since 1978 and was no longer functioning reliably.  The new scoreboard will benefit both students and spectators. Craig Burlingame, Branch Officer for CNB’s Homer location, says that CNB is committed to supporting the Homer community. “It’s important for CNB to be a part of the activities and organizations in Homer, and Homer Community Schools is a vital part of what makes Homer home for so many. In addition, athletics plays an important role in teaching young people about responsibility, commitment, and teamwork. The Homer Trojans participate in the Big-8 Athletic Conference, with over 300 students per year competing in a wide range of middle school and high school athletic activities. County National Bank recognizes the importance of supporting local schools committed to serving the community and their students by providing academic, athletic, and social opportunities, banking on building a better future for all.
