Vikings Hire Farley as New Coach

It became official on March 4 when longtime Leslie High School football coach Scott Farley announced he was leaving the Blackhawk program and taking over at Jackson. “This was a very, very difficult decision to make,” Farley said. “The people in and around the Leslie program and community have been very supportive and we’ve built something special here. I had to take some time before making a decision, but I look forward to this challenge.” And quite a challenge it will be… The difference in the programs is immense. Farley compiled a 117-82 record at Leslie - including an 84-42 mark since 2001 – three conference championships and trips to the state semi-finals in 2007 and 2008. The ‘Hawks have featured one of the area’s most high-powered offenses in recent years and have waged several epic battles with perennial area power Grass Lake. The Vikings, on the other hand and although playing on a larger stage, have struggled, going winless last year and 4-23 the last three years. Vikings Win District Opener
Jackson wins the Class A District Opener 57-39 over Richland Gull Lake. The Vikings will play Mason in the District Semifinal on Wednesday at Battle Creek Lakeview.
Emotional Win for Cardinals
By Larry Jacobson, JTV Sports Something was different about the Michigan Center girl’s basketball team. From the opening tip in the Class C District Championship game against Concord on Friday night, the Lady Cardinals played with a fight and passion they looked for all season. Center jumped out to an 8-0 lead, forced five early turnovers, led 9-4 after one quarter and never looked back. The resurgent Cards withstood a late Yellow Jacket push before holding on for a 41-36 title win in front of a crowded house at Concord High School. “To win this game the way we did, especially after losing in three overtimes to Concord last year, really says amazing things about the girls on this team,” Center coach Joe Lusk said after the game. “It got a little tight there at the end and we sort of backed off a little bit. I’m not sure why. Northwest Wins District Title

Warrior to Siena Heights
Grass Lake High School's Sydney Cook has signed with Siena Heights University of Adrian to play basketball next year. Cook is the first Grass Lake Lady Warrior to sign to play college basketball since 1990.
East Jackson Wins Conference
The East Jackson boys basketball team captured the Cascades Conference championship Thursday night with a victory over Michigan Center 50 to 35. This was the first championship for the team since 1998, their 9th overall in school history. Coach Greg Zeller credited a strong defense in the win. The Trojans end the regular season with a record of 15-4. The Class C Districts begins next week and East Jackson is hosting their tournament.
