Josh Collmenter and Former Teammates honored at Homer

Derek Devine, JTV Sports Homer, MI. -  High school basketball is in full swing, however, last night in Homer it was a former baseball squad and a Major League Pitcher that stole the show. Homer High School hosted a 'Tradition of Excellence' fundraiser yesterday, and the 2004 State Championship Trojan Baseball team returned to their home grounds to be honored at the event. Amongst the fourteen players to return was Josh Collmenter, current relieving pitcher for the Arizona Diamondbacks. “This is where I am from, these are all of the guys I grew up with. We are a family here,” said Collmenter. “I’ve been able to keep in contact with them via phone and text, but it feels great to be back and see them face to face again. We are all at different points of life, with careers and families, and it is good to be back with them and catch up. " Collmenter may be living out his childhood dream, but he is never too busy to come back to his hometown and continue to develop his relationship with the people in the community; both family and friends, as well as the great number of kids that look…

It is a drive, a passion, an all-encompassing thirst to melt the cold with a burning ferocity that borders on madness. The area’s best.   Voting will begin on our website Friday, January 10th.

Chucky’s Game Picks

*Chuck will select a few of his favorite games each week for his picks. The holiday season is over, and with its’ end comes Chucky Buckles’ emergence from hiatus. During the break between the football and basketball seasons he took a computer class, had one of those soda-pop vending machines installed in his house and built a covered wagon from some old barn wood he found in a field. Basketball season is here, and that means Chucky is more focused on each concession stand’s popcorn making ability than the action on the court. Still, picks must be made. BOYS***   LUMEN CHRISTI @ JACKSON: Former Lions coach Jim Schwartz is on-hand to lend his services to either coach in need of in-game adjustments, but his offer to assist is rebuffed by both sides when it’s revealed that he- and the Lions – just aren’t that good. PICK: LUMEN CHRISTI HOMER @ HANOVER-HORTON: The Trojans feature many of the same kids who helped the football team reach the state semifinals in November. Trouble erupts when those same kids, perhaps forgetting its basketball season, tackle the Comets’ ball carriers the first few times up the court. PICK: HANOVER-HORTON CONCORD @ VANDERCOOK LAKE:…

Lady Cougars even record at 7-7

FORT WAYNE, IN – Kylie Townsley scored career high games in her last two outings of 14 and 20 points and in today's game against Indiana Tech she did it once again scoring a game high 28 points to lead the Cougars in a 70-63 win over a very talented 9-6 Indiana Tech team.  The Cougars evened their record at 7-7 on the season. Karly Bender made six of six from the free throw line in the last 18 seconds of the game to seal the victory for Spring Arbor. The biggest difference in the game was ball control and points off of turnovers.  The Cougars committed just seven turnovers in the game compared to 17 by the Warriors.  The Cougars took advantage of the ITU turnovers…
