Jackson College Receives Gold Status as Veteran-Friendly School

(August 24, 2023 11:11 AM ET) The Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency recognized Jackson College’s commitment to veterans and military-connected students with Gold status. Jackson College is one of 62 Veteran-Friendly Schools in Michigan, with 47 receiving Gold status. “We are incredibly grateful to have 62 Veteran-Friendly Schools in Michigan that are committed to supporting their student-veteran population,” said MVAA Director Adam Hollier. “Making the transition from boots and a helmet to a cap and gown can be a daunting process. Having guidance and resources from their academic institution is a game changer.” “This, our seventh such designation, speaks to the dedication of Jackson College to our veterans, service members, and military-connected students,” said Randall Locke, veterans resource representative. “As a Michigan Veteran Connector school, Jackson College is a point of contact for all veterans and veteran families. We’re here to ensure people have access to the resources and support they need, whether in the classroom or traveling through life.” Jackson College offers a dedicated space, the Veterans Resource Center, in Bert Walker Hall. There is a veterans web page (https://www.jccmi.edu/veteran-services/) and a student organization where students can connect to others with similar experiences. Jackson College Earns First Men’s Soccer Win of Season

Jon Torres (29) of Hillsdale scored the first goal of the game for Jackson College in a 2-1 win over Great Lakes Christian College Wednesday at home.  By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (August 23, 2023 8:45 PM ET) It has probably been a while since college players competed in 25-minutes halves. Jackson College officials shortened the game from 45 to 25 minutes halves due to high temperatures and humidity.  Jackson jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first six minutes of action on a penalty kick by Jon Torres of Hillsdale. It was the first goal of the season for the Jets.  “That goal set the tempo and gave us a little bit of confidence … that is a big thing,” Coach Adam Wright said. It appeared as if the Jets would take that lead to halftime, but Great Lake was awarded a penalty kick with 21 seconds remaining in the contest. Emmanuel Ndjoli scored what would be the game-winning goal for Jackson midway through the second half. He hit a rocket from 20 yards out giving the Jets the lead. Jackson…
