Jackson College Joins Colleges Across State for ‘Reconnect on Campus’ Week

(July 17, 2023 3:57 PM ET) Jackson College will join colleges across the state promoting the Michigan Reconnect program with Reconnect on Campus week, featuring an open house and informational session Wednesday, July 19 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Bert Walker Hall Community Rooms. Presented in conjunction with the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Development, colleges across the state are hosting events throughout the week as part of a statewide campaign to connect working-age adults with postsecondary educational opportunities.  “Michigan Reconnect is an invitation to start back to college, it’s an invitation to finish what you started,” said Jeremy Frew, chief academic and student services officer. “It’s a financial incentive that will help make it easier and smoother to better your life.”  Today, Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist II kicked off “Reconnect on Campus” week highlighting the tuition-free Michigan Reconnect scholarship and the events being held at 27 community and tribal colleges across Michigan this week to help more working-age adults enroll in degree or certificate programs. “Higher education and skilled credentials are the key to securing a better future for working families and ensuring the economic vibrancy of our state for decades to come,” said Lt. Jackson College Applauds Creation of New State MiLEAP Education Department

Gretchen Whitmer’s creation of a new state department focused on early childhood education, higher education and education partnerships.  The Governor announced on Wednesday that the new department, under the executive branch, will handle some functions now under the scope of the Michigan Department of Education and other departments. The statement released by Jackson College: Jackson College applauds Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s creation of the new Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential, or MiLEAP, and looks forward to working with this new department to provide Michigan’s residents opportunities to succeed. MiLEAP has a bold but necessary goal – building an education system from preschool through postsecondary that can support kids, families, and the economy of the future by ensuring anyone can make it in Michigan. The executive order creates a cabinet-level director to oversee the department and report to the governor. Jackson College and Grand Valley Partner for Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and Other Career Pathways

(July 11, 2023 3:49 PM ET) Leaders at Jackson College and Grand Valley State University signed a partnership agreement today that includes a nursing pathway for Jackson College students to earn a bachelor's degree in nursing from GVSU, strengthening the talent pipeline in that field. Funding for the nursing partnership comes from $56 million in state appropriations for community colleges to partner with four-year universities and design a bachelor's degree in nursing specific to that community. The agreement also provides other Jackson College students with seamless pathways to complete their bachelor's degrees at GVSU and gives Grand Valley a physical office at Jackson College's main campus on Emmons Road. Starting this fall, the office will be staffed by a jointly hired student services coordinator to offer broad-ranging transfer and student support. GVSU President Philomena V. Jackson College Now Offering Course Credit for Hundreds Of Industry-Recognized Credentials

(July 5, 2023 4:47 PM) Local residents with industry-recognized credentials and certifications may now be eligible for course credit at Jackson College. “Jackson College is proud to be a higher education partner in the Jackson and South Central Michigan area,”  said Daniel J. Phelan, president & CEO of Jackson College. “Giving students the ability to get credit for their work done outside of school hours is just another way we can support and acknowledge the work done by their students.” Students can earn course credit that would count toward hundreds of certificate and degree programs in Michigan. Course credit may be awarded for specific licensures, certifications, apprenticeships, training academies and other industry-recognized credentials. Industry areas where credits are available include healthcare, information technology, manufacturing, culinary arts, digital media, skilled trades, business and more. “Skills gained by obtaining an industry-recognized credential are directly connected to knowledge learned on our campuses,” said Brandy Johnson, MCCA president. “This new partnership recognizes the hard work being done outside the classroom by awarding course credit for more than 500 industry-recognized credentials.” Funding to connect the more than 500 industry credential areas is provided by the Ascendium Education Group as part of efforts by Michigan community…

Jackson College Announces Dean’s List for Spring 2023

(July 1, 2023 8:00 AM) Jackson College students are recognized each fall, winter, and spring semester for high academic achievement by being named to the Dean’s List. The minimum requirements for being named are: Full-time students who complete 12 or more credits during the semester with a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher. Part-time students, who after completing a total of 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84, and 96 credit hours, have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher Congratulations to Jackson College’s Dean’s List honorees for the Spring  2023 semester.  Students recognized for the spring semester include (full-time students, followed by part-time students):
