Chucky’s Game Pick: Hanover-Horton at Napoleon

HANOVER-HORTON (10-1) @ NAPOLEON (11-3) – BOYS: This is shaping up to be one of the biggest and most anticipated games of the year and… wait, isn’t that always the case when these teams meat? It’s the young Comets – featuring Brock Spink’s cool hair – and the veteran Pirates – countering with the beard of Kohl Roberts. The heat gets turned up when each side throws down gauntlets: If HH wins, Roberts agrees to shave his beard and if the Pirates win, Spink shaves his head. Truthfully, Chucky – being older and balding and mostly NOT hip – is jealous of both kids. On a side note, when Chucky walks out to his truck after the game he’s greeted by both teams and roughed up. PICK: NAPOLEON

Chucky’s Game Pick: East Jackson at Napoleon (girls)

EAST JACKSON (10-3) @ NAPOLEON (12-2) – Girls game: Chucky foresees chaos in this matchup of two of the area’s best girls basketball teams. The Pirates, apparently deciding that merely winning a sporting event isn’t enough, sneak over to Sutton Road before the game and attempt to steal The Dome and take it back to Napoleon. Their attempt is scuttled when the Lady Trojans receive news of the plan and repel the invaders. Legendary actress Katharine Hepburn, who starred in the 1971 blockbuster film ‘Trojan Women’, serves as honorary captain for the game and gives a pep talk to EJ. Sadly, she leaves in shame when one of the players asks another ‘who’s grandmother is this?’ Also, it gets sort of creepy when it’s announced that Katharine Hepburn died 10 years ago. PICK: NAPOLEON

Chucky’s Game Picks

*Chuck will select a few of his favorite games each week for his picks. The holiday season is over, and with its’ end comes Chucky Buckles’ emergence from hiatus. During the break between the football and basketball seasons he took a computer class, had one of those soda-pop vending machines installed in his house and built a covered wagon from some old barn wood he found in a field. Basketball season is here, and that means Chucky is more focused on each concession stand’s popcorn making ability than the action on the court. Still, picks must be made. BOYS***   LUMEN CHRISTI @ JACKSON: Former Lions coach Jim Schwartz is on-hand to lend his services to either coach in need of in-game adjustments, but his offer to assist is rebuffed by both sides when it’s revealed that he- and the Lions – just aren’t that good. PICK: LUMEN CHRISTI HOMER @ HANOVER-HORTON: The Trojans feature many of the same kids who helped the football team reach the state semifinals in November. Trouble erupts when those same kids, perhaps forgetting its basketball season, tackle the Comets’ ball carriers the first few times up the court. PICK: HANOVER-HORTON CONCORD @ VANDERCOOK LAKE:…
