MIS blood drive honors heroes, victims of 9-11 BROOKLYN, Mich. (Sept. 11, 2015) – More than 460 donors came to donate blood at the Spirit of America Blood Drive at Michigan International Speedway, serving as a strong reminder that America will “never forget” the events of 9/11. The blood drive at the racetrack began as a tribute in 2002 in honor of the victims and heroes of 9/11. Since its inception, the Spirit of America blood drive has collected more than 10,199 pints of blood, positively affecting more than 30,597 lives. In 2015 alone about 426 units were collected on Friday. Those donations alone can potentially save 1,278 lives. (Each unit can be transfused to up to three people.) And the speedway was still processing additional donors after 3 p.m. “I can’t say enough about the countless efforts of donors, volunteers, sponsors, Michigan Blood and MIS employees and the many others who helped make this event a success,” MIS Director of Guest Services and Spirit of America founder Tim Booth said. “A special thanks goes out to all the blood donors. This drive wouldn’t be possible if it weren’t for their generosity.” The Spirit of America has evolved into more…

We keep them and their families in our thoughts and prayers. “Patriot Day honors those who perished, first responders, and men and women who demonstrated incredible bravery and compassion. This day will forever be a reminder of the heroic individuals who stood tall in the face of evil to help their fellow Americans. “We’re grateful for all first responders who walk in their footsteps, serving their communities. We also thank the courageous men and women in the armed forces who have paid the ultimate price for freedom, those serving today, and our brave veterans. “On Friday, Sept. 11, the state of Michigan will lower its flags to half-staff to honor Patriot Day and the victims of the attacks. Please do so as well at your home or workplace. As the…
The City of Jackson Water Department will start the Fall Fire Hydrant Flushing Program on Monday, September 21st. Flushing will start in the Southwest Section of the City and will finish in the Northeast Section approximately (3) weeks later. Flushing will be take place from 7:30am to 3:00pm, Monday through Friday. This semi-annual flushing is necessary to wash iron and other sediment out of the water mains. This sediment does not affect water quality, but can cause water to become discolored. The water is safe to drink and discoloration often disappears within a short time. Motorists are urged to slow down where flushing is taking place and to exercise caution. Residents are also advised not to wash clothing while lines are being flushed in or around their neighborhoods. In addition, it is always advisable to check the color of the water before doing any laundry. If you would like further information, please call the Department of Public Works-Water at (517) 788-4170 or visit their website at www.CityofJackson.org.
