Spring Arbor tabs Ryan Marken as next baseball coach

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – When Sam Riggleman retires following the 2016 season, a familiar face will step in to grab the reins of the program as Ryan Marken has been named the next head baseball coach at Spring Arbor University, Director of Athletics Ryan Cottingham announced on Wednesday (Nov. 25).   “We are thrilled that Ryan has accepted the invitation to be the next baseball coach at Spring Arbor University,” said Cottingham. “SAU has an unparalleled tradition of excellence within our baseball program and Coach Marken will undoubtedly build on the strong legacy of baseball and character development.”   Marken is set to begin his new post June 1 and carry on a strong legacy of Spring Arbor baseball.   “I'm grateful for the opportunity Ryan Cottingham, President Ellis and the University has given me, and thankful for them believing in me,” said Marken. “I can't help but smile knowing how much the Lord has had his hand on this whole situation.”   No stranger to the program, Marken, a former player and now in his third season as an assistant coach, has helped guide the Cougars to two consecutive Crossroads League Tournament championships and NAIA National Championship Opening Round…

Ready to teach, ready to coach

Neville excited to take over boys basketball program at Lumen Christi   By Mike Moore Staff Writer   Jackson – Five starters graduated, as did the first man off the bench.   Needless to say, the turnover in personal was significant, and that was just on the roster.   When the 2014-15 boys basketball season came to a close, and Lumen coach Rich Karasek stepped down from his position, the rebuild was officially under way.   And the architect of the new construction for the Titans’ program couldn’t be happier to have the chance.   “I like to read a lot, and one of the books I’m reading right now talks about the best coaches being those who can teach,” said Pat Neville, the new sideline general for the Titans. “We know we’ll need some patience, especially early on. But the pieces are already falling into place.”   The biggest piece this offseason was Neville, a teacher and coach at the school since 1987.   Since that times he’s “coached just about everything,” as he put it.   And he’s not lying.   His resume includes more than 28 years of teaching and coaching at the same school.   He’s…
