Chris Greenwood, former Albion College cornerback and the 2011 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's Defensive Most Valuable Player, has signed with the New England Patriots practice squad. Greenwood, 26, is a veteran of three NFL seasons and has had stints with the Detroit Lions, Dallas Cowboys, Minnesota Vikings and Baltimore Ravens. The 6-foot-1, 197-pounder, was originally drafted by Detroit in the fifth round (148th overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft. Greenwood spent his rookie season on the Physically Unable to Perform List and most of 2013 on the Lions practice squad before being added to their 53-man roster late in the season. He appeared in three games and made six tackles. Greenwood spent the first 15 weeks of 2014 on Minnesota’s practice squad before being signed to Baltimore’s 53-man roster. He was inactive for two regular-season games and both postseason contests. He went to training camp with Baltimore this year and was released prior to the start of the regular season. Spring Arbor women’s soccer team set to embark on NAIA playoffs By Mike Moore Staff Writer Spring Arbor – The preparation, the extra work, the season-long dominance has all led to this — again. The Spring Arbor University women’s soccer team wrapped up another brilliant regular season, going 18-2-1. And in doing so, the Cougars are now prepping for Saturday’s NAIA playoff opener with Carroll College. It’s the sixth consecutive year SAU has reached the NAIA playoffs. “It’s been a very good year,” coach Jason Crist said Wednesday morning. “Our team is very experienced, being this is our sixth trip in a row to the tournament. We’ve put ourselves a good spot to face a team that’s not seeded.” SAU is the sixth seed on its side of the bracket, while Carroll (14-5-2) was not seeded. “But it’s still a very good team that comes from a part of the country we don’t see all that often,” Crist said of the Saints, who hail from Helena, Montana. “They have a very good defense. We have to find ways to break that down. We have to be patient. And we have to get some chances on net.” That is likely to be…
ALBION, Mich. -Jessica Shaw will represent Albion College as an individual runner in the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship. The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh is hosting the championships, November 21, at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wisconsin. The women’s race will begin at Noon Eastern Time. Jessica Shaw is nearing the finish line of another cross country season, her third at Albion College, but the journey to qualifying as an individual for the NCAA Division III Championships for the second year in a row was far from easy. While a fall at the 3-kilometer mark spoiled Shaw’s debut in the NCAA Championships last November, Albion Coach Derick Lawrence was quick to point out how great things were ahead. The longer than normal cross country season didn’t allow Shaw much time for rest before the track season, and even wearing a boot when not competing in the spring, she managed a runner up finish in the 10,000 meters in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championship. The pain in her foot, however, masked a breathing condition Shaw was beginning to develop. Doctors initially diagnosed Shaw with pneumonia early last summer, but eventually learned it was histoplasmosis, a fungus that had attached…
