Vikings looking to start on the right foot with trip to Marshall
By Mike Moore File Photo By Ryan Kerwin, JTV Sports Staff Writer Jackson— The first week came and went, and the Jackson football team was 0-1. That was 2016, when a loss in the season opener gave way to five wins in the final eight games, and a season ending one win shy of a playoff berth. Scott Farley and his group isn’t about to look backwards, but, as the Vikings prep to move forward with 2017, there’s one resounding theme heading into Friday night’s tilt at Marshall. “We want to get off on the right foot,” Farley said. “It’ so important, especially when you look at the conference we are in and the games we have coming up. With a young team, getting some momentum is going to be key.” Separated only by a quick drive down I-94, Jackson and Marshall have never played before. The Vikings finished 2016 with a 5-4 record and have brought back a whole stable of starters. Marshall was 4-5 last year, and seemed to define close losses. The Redhawks final…
Weatherwax Awards Grant for Park Reforestation and Summer Night Tree

Another $20,000 will go toward restoring the Summer Night Tree sculpture, designed and created by artist Louis Nevelson. Since its installation in 1978, the sculpture has truly become a cultural asset to the city of Jackson, and its restoration is a top priority, said Stacy Harrison, chairwoman of the Jackson Public Arts Commission. JPAC officials estimate the restoration will cost roughly $40,000. The restoration includes removal of all previous paint coatings and corrosion and an application of layers of new protective coatings which are expected to maintain the sculpture for at least 30 years. The future home of the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce (JTV photo) The Jackson County Chamber of Commerce is planning a move around the corner to 134 West Michigan Avenue in Downtown Jackson. The Chamber is purchasing the Klein Brothers building and will move all operations from its current location at 141 South Jackson Street this fall. Moving to the new offices with the Chamber will be Experience Jackson and The Anchor Initiative. According to Mindy Bradish-Orta, President and CEO of The Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, Experience Jackson and Anchor Initiative, the move is a result of growth. “The Chamber bought its current building in 2008 with 4.5 FTE (full time equivalent employees).
