Through arduous training, day and night, Eliza learns how to speak English “properly,” and transforms into a lady respected and adored by all classes. However, she finds herself in a difficult position, now too refined to go back to her old life and not with any means or desire to live life as a lady of leisure – especially by herself.  Tickets can be purchased at a discount rate online at www.CenterStageJackson.org or by calling (517) 539-4118. Tickets can also be purchased at the door.  Students:  $16 in advance, $18 at the door.  Adults: $18 in advance, $20 at the door. Group rates available (10 or more). Amtrak Adds Trains for Thanksgiving, Ridership Rebounds After Construction

In anticipation of the busiest travel week of the year, Amtrak is prepared to accommodate the surge of holiday travelers with extra trains in Michigan. Amtrak also will operate every available passenger railcar. Tickets sell out quickly, so customers are encouraged to plan ahead and book tickets early. Overall, Michigan's ridership on state-sponsored Amtrak trains has increased in Fiscal Year (FY) 2017 to 738,837, an 8 percent improvement over the previous year. This increase in ridership can be attributed to reduced delays as well as a full schedule of trains operating on the Chicago-to-Detroit/Pontiac Wolverine service corridor. During summer 2016, track and signal construction between Kalamazoo and Dearborn resulted in reduced schedules and delays. This year, trains are operating faster and smoother, enabling Wolverine ridership to increase 12 percent over the previous year, with sales of $20.4 million.   "We are excited to see construction activity wrap up on the corridor and customers are returning to the trains this year," said Tim Hoeffner, MDOT Office of Rail director. "Amtrak trains continue to provide a convenient and comfortable form of transportation for people to travel in and out of Michigan.” The Chicago-to-Holland/Grand Rapids Pere Marquette service saw the next significant improvement in…

Lumen ready for trip to Watervliet

By Mike Moore                                 Photo by Ryan Kerwin, JTV Sports Staff Writer   The obvious first concern is the travel, a high school team stuck on a bus for hours while simultaneously trying to prepare for what will be the biggest game of the season.   Good luck, right?   Lumen Christi football coach Herb Brogan downplayed that concern Wednesday night while speaking of his team’s pending trip to Watervliet in a Division 6 regional final Saturday afternoon.   “It has to be a business trip,” Brogan said simply. “I think these guys are used to it. We started the year in Grand Rapids and in Hastings. We’ve gone to Traverse City before. Really, we just have to stay focused and do what we do.”   The trip is roughly 100 miles, and Brogan estimates his guys will spend about two hours on the bus.   His main focus, however, centers on slowing the Panthers’ offense.   And good luck with that.   Watervliet (11-0) has scored 572 points this year, a whopping 52 points per contest.   The Panthers lowest output of the season was…
