(June 27, 2020 3:16 PM) Michigan reported 314 coronavirus (COVID-19) positive test cases today, with the state reported total now at 63,009. The State of Michigan is reporting 19 COVID-19-related death today, bringing the state total to 5,907. State Cumulative Total of Recovered COVID-19 Cases (as of 6/26/2020): 51,099.  This information is updated daily at 3 p.m., with COVID-19 results included as of 10 a.m.

American 1 Awards Scholarships to Graduating Seniors

(June 27, 2020 12:30 PM)  American 1 Credit Union awarded 12 graduating high school seniors from southern Michigan with $1,000 scholarships for their commitment to volunteerism in their community.  American 1 offered the awards through their annual Community Involvement Scholarship Program. Each student applicant submitted an essay on the importance of volunteerism and how their involvement has impacted the community. The scholarships are funded through American 1’s Skip-a-Pay program, where credit union members can choose to skip one month’s loan payment for $25. A portion of the $25 fees are then used to fund the scholarship program. Jackson County Cumulative Report: 473 COVID-19 Positive Cases and 29 Deaths

(June 27, 2020 12:06 PM) The Jackson County Health Department released the COVID-19 positive numbers for Jackson County.  As of 12 PM today, there are 473 positive cases (cumulative), and 29 deaths (cumulative)*.     There are 2 new cases since yesterday’s report.  No new deaths have been reported since June 7. Cumulative recovered** patients (cumulative): 417 (updated weekly, as of June 26). The Michigan Department of Corrections is reporting as of 4:30 PM Thursday, June 25, there are 1,587 confirmed positive cases are at Jackson facilities, 156 Confirmed Positive Jackson staff. As of 6 AM on Wednesday, June 24, there are 2 individuals with positive COVID-19 results who are inpatients at Henry Ford Allegiance Health.  *These numbers do not reflect any cases or deaths identified through Michigan Department of Corrections.  Their numbers are listed under a separate category "Others" for the Michigan Statistics. **Recovered is defined as the number of persons with a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis who are alive 30 days post-onset (or referral date if onset is not available). I-94 Project Update: Travel Advisories for Upcoming Closures

(June 26, 2020 5:08 PM) The Michigan Department of Transportation has issued a travel advisory for the I-94 project in Jackson County. The following closures are for the I-94 Corridor Project.  Portable changeable message sign (PCMS) will display the following messages: Beginning at 6 a.m. Saturday, June 27, through 12 p.m. *Westbound I-94 right lane from Cooper Street to West Avenue will be closed. Beginning at 6 a.m. Friday, June 26, through Thursday, July 2, 3 p.m. *Westbound I-94 ramp to southbound US-127 (exit 142) ramp will be closed and detoured. Beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday, July 2, through 3 p.m. *Westbound I-94 lane closure from I-94 Business Loop (Sargent Road) to West Avenue to shift onto new westbound roadway. In the upcoming week, work will continue on the westbound I-94 bridge over the Grand River, consisting of sealing joints. Crews will continue reconstructing westbound I-94 by placing concrete curb and gutter. Additionally, the contractor will continue milling out the existing pavement from Elm Avenue to Sargent Road and will begin resurfacing westbound I-94.  Traffic maintenance for this upcoming week will include a split-merge configuration and reduced speed zones along I-94 between Sargent Road and Elm Avenue. Governor Whitmer Spends Friday Working at Local Salon in Grand Rapids

(June 26, 2020 4:38 PM) Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer brought her “Work With Whitmer” tour to Grand Rapids, where she visited two businesses that have reopened under the governor’s MI Safe Start Plan.   The governor started her day at Reflections Hair Salon, where she worked alongside stylists to learn about their craft and help clean equipment on the studio floor. The governor later purchased some juice from Malamiah Juice Bar in downtown Grand Rapids. During her visits, she spoke with both small business owners about how COVID-19 has impacted their business and how they are continuing to stay safe and protect against the virus.   “This was a great opportunity to see firsthand how Michigan’s small businesses are getting back to work safely and responsibly,” said Governor Whitmer. “I had a fun time learning from the stylists at Reflections about the precautions they are taking to keep their staff and customers safe, and they made sure to put me to work. We’re not out of the woods yet, but if we all keep doing our part, I know we can build a Michigan that is safer and stronger for everyone.”  Last week, Governor Whitmer spent the day working behind the grill at Lafayette Coney Island in Detroit.  Currently, most of Michigan is Governor in phase 4 of the MI Safe Start Plan. A few weeks ago, Governor Whitmer signed Executive Order 2020-91 which requires businesses to adhere…
