Jackson County Health Department Appeals for Cooperation and Patience as Priority 1A Group Moves Through Completion

(January 26, 2021 10:03 AM) Today, the Jackson County Health Department has issued an update on the vaccine distribution effort in Jackson County: The Jackson County Health Department (JCHD) continues to work with Henry Ford Allegiance Health in providing vaccines to the community through a phased approach. The State of Michigan has opened vaccinations for Priority Group 1B including individuals who are 65 and older. As we move through completion of the Priority 1A group and more solidly into Priority 1B, we need your cooperation and patience. Please note, all vaccinations are by appointment only. There are NO walk up vaccinations at this time in an effort to utilize vaccine in the most effective and efficient manner. Due to the number of people who have signed up, and the current size of our vaccine shipments, it may be months before we get through everyone in the 65 and older age group. Vaccine Clinics are scheduled based on vaccine supply and the health department will contact everyone who has pre-registered. It is important to provide an email and phone number on the survey so we may contact you regarding future clinics. We are trying to work with volunteers & local groups…

(January 25, 2021 6:25 PM) Michigan High School Athletic Association Executive Director Mark Uyl said today said the MHSAA will do everything possible to have a winter sports season.   A statement by Uyl was released following Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s press briefing this afternoon. On Friday, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services announced the end of some restrictions currently in place but continued the prohibition on indoor contact sports through February 21.  The MDHHS extended the previous emergency order which would have allowed contact activities to begin on February 1.  The ban on indoor contact sports has been controversial in Michigan, particularly since the state high school football finals were just held at Ford Field this past weekend.
