Hurst Foundation Contributing $60K to Jackson YMCA Capital Campaign

(January 25, 2021 12:22 PM) Today, the Jackson YMCA announced that the Hurst Foundation is contributing $60,000 to the Y’s campaign for a contemporary new facility in downtown Jackson. Led by President Anthony P Hurst, the foundation has granted more than $15 million over the past 50 years in support of local, state and national communities. “We are proud to support the Y as they work to build a new downtown facility,” said Hurst. “For decades our foundation has contributed to work that improves the well-being of our community, and we believe in the YMCA mission to better the mental and physical health of all Jackson residents.” Established in 1955 by Peter F. Hurst, who believed in giving back to the community, the Hurst Foundation’s local philanthropic efforts have included the Ella Sharp Museum, the Jackson Community Foundation, and the installation of the Peter F. Hurst Planetarium in collaboration with Jackson Public Schools. Each year the Hurst Foundation grants nearly $500,000 to local projects and groups. Jackson County Cumulative Report: 8,544 COVID-19 Positive Cases and 195 Deaths

(January 25, 2021 12:00 PM) The Jackson County Health Department released the COVID-19 positive numbers for Jackson County.  As of 12 PM today, there are 8,544 positive cases (cumulative), and 195 deaths (cumulative)*.     There are 36 new cases and 1 new death since Saturday’s report.  Cumulative recovered, as of January 25, 2020:  7,118** The cumulative numbers posted on Mondays include the data from Sunday and Monday.  Recovered numbers are being posted as received. The Michigan Department of Corrections is reporting as of 7:30 PM January 22, there are 4,440 confirmed positive cases at Jackson facilities and 560 confirmed positive staff cases.  MDOC positive case numbers are cumulative. As of 4 PM January 18, there 19 persons at Henry Ford Allegiance Health being treated as inpatients for COVID-19. Note:  Jackson County will post COVID-19 data daily by mid-afternoon, Monday-Saturday, keeping with the schedule established by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). Consumers Energy Providing $3 Million to Help Michigan Residents with Energy Bills

(January 25, 2021 8:10 AM) Consumers Energy announced today it is helping Michigan residents through the cold winter with an additional $3 million to help with energy bills. In total, the company and its charitable foundation have provided $21 million to support customers and communities with needs related to the COVID-19 pandemic. “We are committed to making sure our friends and neighbors receive every bit of help during this extraordinary time,” said Brian Rich, Consumers Energy’s chief customer officer. “We expect our new $3 million contribution to seven Michigan nonprofits will help thousands of households continue to manage their bills while more Michiganders receive vaccinations and our state starts to fully reopen.” Consumers Energy has taken extra steps to meet customers’ needs due to the pandemic. Customers can qualify for the new funding if they are at up to 400% of federal poverty guidelines. MDOC Cumulative Report: 4,440 Confirmed Positive Cases at Jackson Facilities, 560 Confirmed Positive Jackson Staff

(January 24, 2021 7:02 PM) The Michigan Department of Corrections is reporting as of 7:30 PM January 24, there are 23,922 confirmed positive COVID-19 cumulative cases at facilities throughout the state.  Of that statewide total, 4,440 of the confirmed positive cases are at Jackson facilities.    Throughout the state corrections system, there are currently 1,597 active cases. In Jackson, there are 1,755 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases at Charles E. Egeler Reception and Guidance Center,  at 1,215 Cooper Street Correctional Facility, 26 at Duane Waters Health Center, 924 at G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility, and 520 at Parnall Correctional Facility.   All numbers are cumulative. Among staff, there are a total of 3,369 COVID-19 positive cases statewide.  In Jackson, there are 185 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases among employees at Charles E. Egeler Reception and Guidance Center, 152 at Cooper Street Correctional Facility, 109 at G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility, 4 at Jackson Regional Warehouse, 3 at Jackson Regional Office, 2 at Jackson Training Center and 105 at Parnall Correctional Facility.  All numbers are cumulative. There have been a total of 129 deaths (statewide) of prisoners who had tested positive for COVID-19, 29 of those deaths were among prisoners at Jackson facilities.    Testing…
