Jackson County Cumulative Report: 31,374 COVID-19 Positive Cases and 452 Deaths
(January 10, 2022 12:00 PM) The Jackson County Health Department released the COVID-19 positive numbers for Jackson County. As of 12:00 PM today, there are 31,374 positive cases (cumulative), and 452 deaths (cumulative)*. There are 742 new cases and 1 new death since Friday’s report. As of January 3, there are 46 persons at Henry Ford Allegiance Health being treated as inpatients for COVID-19. The Jackson County Health Department has announced a change in reporting effective Oct. 6, 2021. Cases defined as probable will be reported in cumulative case and death counts. As additional methods of testing besides the PCR test have become more common, the amount of cases classified as probable has increased and are included to provide a more accurate picture of disease in our community. Swihart Looks for State Wrestling Championship
By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (January 9, 2022 8:00 AM) A few too many Christmas goodies over the break may have been exactly what Hanover-Horton High School Danni Swihart needed. In a sport where athletes struggle to keep at or near the same weight for five-plus months, it may be just what the doctor ordered for Swihart. Swihart won the Lady Mat Cat Invitational at Montague High School in late December at 135 pounds with three pins and a 6-1 decision. The junior had moved up from the 130-pound weight class where she finished third in an all-girl tournament earlier in the year. “I moved up to 135 after having a nice Christmas break and eating too much,” Swihart said. “I saw that I have a good opportunity at 135.” Voters at MichiganGrappler.com agree, ranking Swihart as the No. 1 seed in the weight class heading forward. Swihart and more than 200 female wrestlers are expected to compete in the first Michigan High School Athletic Association sponsored girls wrestling finals on March 4, 5 at Ford Field. Wrestling Napoleon at Bedford Invitational: Napoleon High School finished fourth as a team at Bedford High School. Nick Marienfeld remained undefeated (21-0) earning a title at 160 pounds. Brady Brooks finished second at 285 pounds as did Bart Laretz at 171 pounds for the Pirates. The annual Napoleon Invitational was cancelled due to lack of referees. Grass Lake at Clinton Inv.: Matt Ranking of Grass Lake finished second at 125 pounds at the 46th annual Dave Elliott Memorial Tournament at Clinton High School. Sam Edie finished third at 112 pounds Jack Reid was fifth at 189 pounds. Concord at St. Louis Inv.: Concord High School finished 13th at the Threloff Invitational at St. Louis High School. Northwest Team Tournament: Northwest High School finished third at their own team tournament on Saturday. The Mounties defeated Brighton 54-24 and Hanover-Horton 57-12. The Comets finished fifth in the tournament. David Fielder went 4-0 with three pins and a hard fought 14-13 win for the Comets.
