Girls basketball Concord 63, Union City 33: Concord earned a Big Eight Conference win at home on Saturday night.  Wrestling  MHSAA Individual Regional Tournaments Division 1 at Lowell: Jaylon Riggins of Jackson was the only one of six Vikings to advance to the state meet. Riggins – who finished third at the state meet a year ago – earned a regional championship at 160 pounds during the individual meet at Lowell High School.  Division 2 at Niles: Four wrestlers from Northwest and three from Western advanced to the state meet during the D-2 regional individual tournament at Niles. Here are the qualifiers in D-2: Lincoln Raczkowski, Western, 130 pounds, regional champion; Gage Race, Northwest, 135, third place; Jacob Singleton, Western, 145, fourth place; Zach Jacobs, Northwest, 152, second place; Braden Gariety, Northwest, 160, fourth place; Adam Haselius, Northwest, 189, regional champion; and Dominic Honsinger, Western, 285, regional champion.  Division 3 at Constantine: Seven of the 12 wrestlers from Napoleon will advance to the state finals. Wynn Sets School Record, Looks for More

By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (February 20, 2022 8:00 AM) Ask Michigan Center High School sophomore Samantha Wynn what her favorite sport is and she will tell you volleyball. Don’t tell that to the Manchester girls’ varsity basketball team. Wynn recently set a school record with eight 3-point baskets against Manchester earlier in the month. She scored 30 points in the Cardinals’ win – beating the Flying Dutchmen twice in a four-day period.  “When I am out there on the volleyball court, I have so much fun,” Wynn said of the fall sport. “I want to play volleyball in college.” She may change that opinion based on her basketball skills. Wynn has been the top scorer in a number of games, including 21 points, pulling down 11 rebounds, and creating seven steals against Napoleon Friday night.  She scored 17 points in the first half against the Pirates. But Napoleon battled back from a halftime deficit and took a lead in the third quarter. “We got a bit comfortable in the third quarter,” Wynn said of the game. “We came out to play (in the fourth quarter) like we did in the first half.” Wynn says shooting 3-point baskets is her…

Thirty One Jackson County Wrestlers Qualify for State Finals

By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (February 19, 2022 9:41 PM) There were plenty of medals handed out to Jackson County wrestlers during the Michigan High School Athletic Association regional individual tournaments.  A total of 31 Jackson County wrestlers will move on in the wrestling state tournament looking to finish on top of the podium in two weeks.  Wrestlers had to finish in the top four in their respective weight classes to move on in the tournament. The finals will be held March 4, 5 at Ford Field in Detroit.  Here are the qualifiers, school, weight class, and order of finish at the various regional wrestling tournaments.  MHSAA Individual Regional Tournaments Division 1 at Lowell: Jaylon Riggins of Jackson was the only one of six Vikings to advance to the state meet. Boys basketball Jonesville 52, Concord 43: The Yellow Jackets lost a road showdown in the Big Eight Conference. Concord is now 12-3 on the season.  East Jackson 55, Manchester 40: East Jackson earned its fourth win of the season with a victory against Manchester.  Vandercook Lake 65, Hanover-Horton 56: The Jayhawks improved to 15-1 on the season with the road win. Hanover-Horton is 7-8 overall for the season.  Marshall 79, Lumen Christi 37: The Titans are 3-15 on the season with the loss.  Napoleon 57, Michigan Center 41: The Pirates won a big Cascades Conference home game against the Cardinals. Trent Jester scored 19 points and Zach Johnson added 14 points for Napoleon (13-2). Michigan Center (11-5) was led by Carter Kosmet with 13 points and Daylen Hinkle scoring 10 points.   Coldwater 41, Northwest 31: Northwest falls to 6-10 with the road loss at Coldwater.  Western 54, Hastings 46: Western High School trailed by nearly 10 points in the second quarter, but earned a comeback win.
