Regional Track and Field for Jackson-Area Teams
(May 17, 2022 9:37 AM) Local athletes will attempt to qualify for the Michigan High School Athletic Association state track and field state finals. The finals will be held June 4 at various locations. Division 1 will be at Rockford High School; Division 2 will be at Forest Hills Eastern High School; Kent City High School will host the Division 3 track finals; and Baldwin Middle School in Hudsonville will be the host of the D-4 track finals. The top two finishers plus athletes who reach predetermined times, heights, and distances advance to the state finals. Here are regional track and field events and locations this week: MHSAA D-1 Track Regional at Saline – Ann Arbor Huron, Ann Arbor Pioneer, Ann Arbor Skyline, Belleville, Brownstown Woodhaven, Dexter, Gibraltar Carlson, Jackson, Monroe, Saline, Southgate Anderson, Taylor, Temperance Bedford, Ypsilanti Community, and Ypsilanti Lincoln. May 20, noon. MHSAA D-2 Track Regional at Mason: Battle Creek Harper Creek, Battle Creek Pennfield, Charlotte, Eaton Rapids, Hastings, Hopkins, Lake Odessa Lakewood, Marshall, Mason, Middleville Thornapple Kellogg, Northwest, Olivet, Portland, Richland Gull Lake, Wayland, and Western. Baseball Grass Lake 14, Vandercook Lake 0: Grass Lake only had four hits in the win. Brock Harms had a hit and knocked in three runs for the Warriors. Brayden Lape, Blake Stark, and Antonini Malinowski limed the Jayhawks to two hits. Andrew Cheney and Camren Lackey had hits for Vandercook Lake. Napoleon 12, Manchester 3: Grant Bradley earned the pitching win with 10 strikeouts. Jason Negus, Lucas Hankis, Rocco Cross, Bradley, and Caleb Breining each had two hits for the Pirates. Napoleon will travel to Grass Lake on Thursday for the semifinal round of the Cascades Conference Tournament. Addison 5, Hanover-Horton 2: Drew Fedore had two hits and knocked in one run for the Comets. Addison advances to play Michigan Center on Thursday in the Cascades Conference Tournament at MCHS. Michigan Center 10, East Jackson 1: Brendan O’Dowd, Daylen Hinkle, and Alex Hunt all had two hits for the Cardinals. Hinkle and Joe Poynter combined for a one-hitter on the mound. Walk, Roll & Stroll. 7 PM. Join AARP and the City of Jackson, on the first and third Tuesdays in May, June, and July, at Ella Sharp Park and Cascades Park for a 3-mile non-competitive walk, roll, or stroll for all ages and abilities. Registration begins at 6:30 p.m. The walk, roll & stroll begins at 7 p.m. Le Grande Square Clean Up. 12 PM. Join us as we clean up this historic park! Le Grande Square is a small triangular shaped park on East Michigan Avenue in front of the Jackson Amtrak Station. It is the northeast corner of an earlier public square, which existed prior to the arrival of the railroad in 1841. Volunteers should expect to clean the area, spread mulch, cut brush, plant flowers and assemble benches.
