Fox Provides the Arm Strength for Comets

By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (May 15, 2022 8:00 AM) If there were another James Bond movie to be made, Hanover-Horton High School baseball player Hunter Fox may star in the production. He is the man with the golden arm at Hanover-Horton. And Fox isn’t too bad at the plate. Fox is 4-0 on the mound for the Comets with 49 strikeouts so far this season. He also plays behind the plate and rarely lets runners steal on his pitchers. The results are a much improved team as the Comets are 11-5-1 so far this season. Fox says the Comets are hard to beat – if they keep their heads into the game and play solid baseball. “We have played and beaten some good teams this season,” Fox said. “When we communicate and eliminate the errors, we are a pretty good team.” The sophomore uses a solid approach at the plate. He is hitting nearly .500 with 16 RBIs and has four three-hit games for the Comets. “I take the two-strike approach – shorten up on the bat and put it in play,” Fox said.  Fox has played the game since age 5 and enjoys the comradery of teammates on…

Service Organizations Distribute 1,100 Flags for Veteran’s Graves

By Jeff Steers JTV News (May 14, 2022 4:44 PM) David Schmidt of the Marine Corps League Southern Zone said more than 1,100 flags were posted by the graves of veterans at Mount Evergreen Cemetery in Jackson on Saturday.  Members of the Marine Corps League State of Michigan Southern Zone and Vietnam Veterans of America Jackson Chapter 109 helped place the flags.  They used specially designed sticks to make the hole for the flags which are placed next to the graves.  Schmidt said the location of the veteran's graves is “local knowledge” as a fire burned the maps necessary to locate the graves.  He said locating all of the veteran’s flags in the cemetery would be a great Eagle Scout project or student leadership activity. For information, contact Schmidt at Gunz1963@yahoo.com.
