We will be accepting original poetry submissions by Jackson County K-12 students (including homeschooled students) through March 1.  Young Poets is a great way to get students thinking and writing creatively, as well as offering the chance to be published in a library anthology. Encounters and Light: Paintings by Sam Knecht.  February 15 – May 30.  The Ella Sharp Museum is proud to host a new solo exhibition of landscapes and portraits by Michigan artist Sam Knecht.  Knecht is Emeritus Professor of Art, Hillsdale College, teaching 1973-2020. Additionally, he is a Signature Member of the Portrait Society of America and the Michigan Watercolor Society.  His landscapes are plein air and studio creations, all in a naturalistic style. Jackson Boys Win Second Consecutive SEC Basketball Title

By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (February 21, 2023 11:12 PM) Jackson High School head basketball Coach Milton Barnes said a year ago Tyler Selby may have panicked with the basketball in his hands in the finals seconds of a tied game. This year the senior hit a 12-foot jumper with 2 seconds remaining in the game for an 83-81 win over Chelsea on the road Tuesday. The win gives Jackson its second consecutive Southeastern Conference White Division title. Last year Jackson tied with Tecumseh and Chelsea, and this year the Vikings tied with Chelsea for the top spot.  Jackson slowly took the ball up with approximately 20 seconds remaining in a tied game at 81-all. A timeout was called by the Vikings with just over eight seconds remaining and Barnes drew up a play. “It was supposed to go to Savonn Campbell, but he was covered,” Barnes said.  The ball ended up in the hands of Selby who drove just inside the lane for the winning shot.  Barnes said a majority of the seniors played…

Extreme Dodge Jackson County Scoreboard February 21, 2023

Girls basketball Napoleon 35, East Jackson 31: Maggie Beer scored 10 points leading Napoleon to the home win on senior night. East Jackson, Grass Lake and Napoleon finished tied for the Cascades Conference title with identical 9-3 records. The win broke the Trojans’ six-game winning streak.  Michigan Center 43, Hanover-Horton 29: Julia Reynolds scored 15 points and Hailey Mees added 10 points and six rebounds for the Cardinals. Michigan Center finishes 6-6 in the conference with the victory, while Hanover-Horton is 4-8. Maggie Soper grabbed six rebounds and scored five points for the Comets.  Western 39, Lumen Christi 34: The Panthers led by 11 points at the end of the first quarter, but the Titans crept back into the game. Maddy Wolf and Bayli Stewart each scored six points for the Panthers.  Northwest 49, Marshall 20: Ashley Weller scored 20 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead the Mounties. Mara Mitchell scored 17 points and had four steals and Teja Kapp finished with six points and eight rebounds for Northwest (19-2).
