Tecumseh’s Got Talent

Tecumseh Center for the Arts (TCA) is shining the spotlight on Tecumseh’s talented citizens and you are invited to enjoy the show! Watch as your friends, family, neighbors, and familiar community faces light up the stage at the TCA special event Tecumseh’s Got Talent on Saturday, April 23, 2016, at 7:30 pm. The event features performances by:  Tecumseh Dance Workshop  Dance Steps Studio  The TCA Big Band Sax Quartet – Duke’s Suite (Duke Ellington-big band)  The Village Brass – brass quintet  Gary Perrine – folk/country singer  Chris Fulwood – country singer/original song  The Dixie Cups Dixieland Band  Musical performances by local youth including: Brenna Morgan, Makenzie Massey, Tyler Heimerdinger, Hannah Rowe, Anna McCarley, Rebecca Mallon, Sheridan McCarthy, Summer Findley and Elizabeth Lacasse This special fundraising event includes these 14 amazing performances plus the drawing for the 50/50 Raffle ticket. Baker College Holds Spring Tea Fundraiser

Baker College of Jackson will host its 15th annual Spring Tea fundraiser, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturday, April 30, in the student center, 2800 Springport Road, Jackson. This year all proceeds from the tea will benefit the Council for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect, a local organization that works to help children grow up safe and healthy in the Jackson community. “This event is a great way to kick off spring while supporting a very valuable community organization,” said Steve Simpson, Ed.D., Baker College of Jackson president. “It’s also a fun time for everyone, and we are especially grateful to all the community leaders and others who so gladly volunteer to take part.” Local celebrities and business leaders will serve tea and a light luncheon. This year’s theme for decorating the tea tables will be “Celebrating Fathers.” Guests vote to award prizes to the top three People’s Choice table decorations. In addition to the tea and luncheon, attendees will have the opportunity to purchase items such as locally designed jewelry, tea and other items from area vendors. Bonneau Memorial Pancake Breakfast

The Jackson Fraternal Order of Police will hold the annual Bonneau Memorial Pancake Breakfast on April 9, 2016 in honor of Officer James Bonneau who was killed in the line of duty on March 9, 2010. Jim left an impact on the community as a caring and compassionate individual who excelled in assisting people and was an enthusiastic advocate of protecting children. All proceeds will benefit the Bonneau Memorial Child Advocacy Fund in his honor. The event will take place from 8:00 AM until 11:00 AM in the St. Mary Star of the Sea church basement located on the corner of Wesley Street and Mechanic Street. Suggested donations are $5.00 per adult and $3.00 per child. There will be a silent auction and 50/50 raffle. Concord School-Linked Health Center Benefit Dinner

On April 12, Dr. Patrick Rowley, the Executive Director of Brain Balance Achievement Center of Kalamazoo will speak on neurobehavioral disorders in childhood on behalf of the Concord School Linked Health Center at a dinner to be held on the Spring Arbor University campus. The Concord School Linked Health Center is planned to open its doors at the start of the 2016-17 school year.  To help support this initiative, this fundraising dinner is planned for April 12, on the SAU campus. Dr. Rowley will be donating his time to speak  about treatment for pediatric neurological disorders such as ADHD, and autism.  All proceeds from the dinner will go towards the establishment of a clinic which is sorely needed to serve children in Concord and the surrounding area. Dr. Rowley is an acclaimed speaker and Executive Director of Brain Balance Achievement Center of Kalamazoo and frequently addresses parents, teachers and health providers on understanding and assisting children with processing disorders, autism, behavioral and learning disorders as well as sensory integration. Best Selling Author Walter Mosley Coming to Jackson

photo courtesy Marcia Wilson Bringing together the worlds of science fiction with scientific fact, Jackson College joins with several community partners to present the fun & exciting Concatenation Convention community series over the next several months. Over the coming months, a series of community events are planned to lead up to an October Convention. There will be science fiction gaming, a robotics convention, a sci fi/fact movie series with a scientist/professor, a potential alien script art show, a potential sci fi movie showing at the Hurst Planetarium, a communitywide reading of Futureland and 47, and an alien biology art contest.  Events will culminate Oct. 15, 2016, at the Concatenation Convention, a place where Science Fact and Fiction Meet. Headlining the convention will be mystery and science fiction writer Walter Mosley, who will deliver a free keynote and book signing the day of the event. While this event will be free, tickets will be issued to ensure seating. While Mosley is known most widely for his detective Easy Rawlins (Devil in the Blue Dress), he has penned a number of science fiction books such as Blue Light, The Wave, Futureland, Silver Box and 47, a youth novel, which deal with several…

Verve Pipe Presents a Kids Show at TCA

Tecumseh, Michigan – This April, the entire family can enjoy family-friendly music by The Verve Pipe right here in Tecumseh, MI! Keloorah back bigger and better with 12 acts over June and August
