(April 27, 2022 12:00 PM)  The Jackson County Health Department released the COVID-19 positive numbers for Jackson County.  As of 12:00 PM today, there are 39,754 positive cases (cumulative), and 556 deaths (cumulative)*.   There are 190 new cases and 3 new deaths since last Wednesday’s report.   The next report will be on May 2.   The Jackson County Health Department has announced a change in reporting effective Oct. 6, 2021.  Cases defined as probable will be reported in cumulative case and death counts.  As additional methods of testing besides the PCR test have become more common, the amount of cases classified as probable has increased and are included to provide a more accurate picture of disease in our community.  Cumulative recovered, as of April 27:  38,716** The cumulative numbers posted on Mondays include the data from Saturday, Sunday and Monday.  Recovered numbers are being posted as received.  *These numbers do not reflect any cases or deaths identified through Michigan Department of Corrections.  Their numbers are listed under a separate category and reported by the state at Michigan Statistics. (April 26, 2022 4:48 PM) Due to lower COVID numbers, Jackson College this week announced it has begun a two-phase process of rolling back safety protocols.    Masks are no longer mandatory but are encouraged in larger spaces (fieldhouse, community rooms, dining area, etc).  Masks may be required in certain areas such as the Health Clinic and specific workspaces. Signs will be posted. The checkpoint located in front of Potter Center is now discontinued.  During the pandemic, Jackson College limited access to the campus via one entrance on Browns Lake Road.  The main Emmons Road entrance is now open. Vaccination is recommended for student residents, students and employees.  Employees with vaccination designation on their ID may request new ID without designation. Physical distancing is no longer required  Guests may visit residential students inside the halls.  Full capacity is restored in dining commons and theaters.  Full capacity in classrooms is restored. (April 20, 2022 3:46 PM)  Michigan reported 10,474 coronavirus (COVID-19) positive test cases this week, with the state reported total of confirmed and probable cases now at 2,411,464. Michigan is reporting 78 COVID-19-related deaths in the past 7 days, with the state total at 35,935.   Case and death data will be updated once per week on Wednesdays.  Case and death data will be inclusive of both confirmed and probable cases and deaths.

(April 19, 2022 5:05 PM) Governor Whitmer today announced all Michigan families who are eligible for food assistance benefits will continue to receive at least an additional $95 monthly payment in April.  The additional assistance will help approximately 1.31 million Michiganders in more than 700,000 households.  In April 2020, some Michigan residents began receiving additional food assistance under this program. In May 2021, all eligible households began getting extra monthly benefits. Federal approval is necessary every month.    Eligible clients will see additional food assistance benefits on their Bridge Card from April 16 - 25. These benefits will be loaded onto Bridge Cards as a separate payment from the assistance that is provided earlier in the month.  All households eligible for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) receive an increase of at least $95 monthly, even if they are already receiving the maximum payment or are close to that amount. (April 6, 2022 9:45 PM)  Michigan reported 3,759* coronavirus (COVID-19) positive test cases today, with the state reported total of confirmed and probable cases now at 2,393,265. Michigan is reporting 70 COVID-19-related deaths today with the state total at 32,863.   **Note on cases (04/06/2022): Today's daily case count represents new referrals of confirmed and probable cases to the MDSS since the last web update report.  Over the five days (Saturday-Wednesday), the average number of new confirmed and probable cases is ~752 per day. Case and death data will be updated once per week on Wednesdays.  Case and death data will be inclusive of both confirmed and probable cases and deaths.

(April 5, 2022 12:00 PM)  The Jackson County Health Department released the COVID-19 positive numbers for Jackson County.  As of 12:00 PM today, there are 39,350 positive cases (cumulative), and 550 deaths (cumulative)*.   There are 13 new cases since yesterday’s report.  The cumulative total reported today is lower than yesterday due to the reclassification of cases and corrections by the epidemiologist.
