Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony Planned for New Jets Sports Complex

(June 5, 2023 2:47 PM) Outdoor sports will get a boost from the new Jets Sports Complex, now complete on Jackson College Central Campus. Community members are invited to a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday, June 12 at 5 p.m. The Jets Sports Complex, located on the northeast corner of Central Campus, includes improved facilities for baseball and softball teams. Improved stands, press boxes, dugouts and lighting for the ball fields, as well as a new building with concession stands, restrooms and storage. Soccer teams may also benefit from paved walkways and nearby restrooms. “Our facilities were outdated, they hadn’t been updated in years,” said Jeremy Frew, chief academic and student affairs officer. “They needed updating, but the vision was bigger than that. We wanted to create a space that was inviting for the community and that we could share with the community.” Coaches and college administrators began discussing upgrades to the facilities years ago, softball Coach Jamie Vandenburgh said. As teams became more competitive and coaches started having more and more prospective athletes visit, the need for updates grew. Jackson College Recognizes Outstanding Alumni, Service Award Winners

(May 19, 2023 2:14 PM) Jackson College awarded honors to outstanding alumni and community members at the Jackson Honors Night celebration during graduation week, recognizing recipients of the Dr. Ethelene Jones Crockett Distinguished Alumni Award, the Captain Zenneth A. Pond Emerging Alumni Award, and the Jackson College Distinguished Service Award. Dr. Ethelene Jones Crockett Distinguished Alumni Award Thomas ‘67 & Nancy ’68  Evanson Tom and Nancy Evanson have served Jackson County with distinction both professionally and personally for decades. Both started their higher education journeys at Jackson College after graduating from Michigan Center High School, and they are grateful for the foundation it provided. “Without Jackson College as a starting point, it would have been difficult for either of us to have gone on to college immediately,” Thomas said. “It provided a great core educational experience for when we went on to a four-year school.” The Evansons have been married 53 years and have two adult children and six grandchildren, who also all live in Jackson. Jackson College Adds Summer Activities

(May 19, 2023 11:25 AM) Jackson College is offering more than a dozen summer camps and programs for area students and community members this year. There’s something for everyone, whether you love sports, art, or learning new things. Jackson College programs and camps are designed to provide attendees a great time while developing skills and making new friends. A complete program guide, along with registration details is located here.  Summer camps and activities include: Boys Youth Basketball Camp June 19-21, 1-4 p.m. First through sixth grades Boys in first through sixth grades can learn the game at Boys Youth Basketball Camp, June 19-21 from 1-4 p.m. in Victor Cuiss Fieldhouse at Jackson College. Campers will learn fundamentals of the game and practice drills with past and future Jets players. They may participate in competitions and 3-on-3 games to practice their skills.
