“Clark Kent, Einstein” Lead VCL Bowling

Vandercook Lake High School Bowler Korey Reichard (photos by Jeff Steers, JTV Sports) By Jeff Steers JTV Sports Two cousins who have bowled with one another for nearly 16 years continue to lead the successful Vandercook Lake High School boys’ bowling team. Seniors Korey Reichard and Conner Lackey won a Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 4 state title two years ago, have been all-state all three years, and have enjoyed success as individuals. But the clock is running down for the duo that has defined success at VCL in boys’ bowling. Reichard and Lackey have dominated local area tournaments. “On any given day, either one of us can win local tournaments,” Lackey said. “It just depends on who is hot that day.” Case in point during a match against Napoleon High School Saturday, Lackey rolled a 259 only to have Reichard earn a 299 in the next game. They are joined this year by a third cousin - Lackey’s brother, Camren. “Cam knew how important this senior season was for Korey and I,” Lackey said. “He is more of a baseball player, but has steadily improved his bowling average from the 130s to 190s.” With other freshmen and sophomores…

Vandercook Lake Basketball is Hot to Start Year

By, Gabriel Schray | JTV Sports | December 19th, 2018 Jackson, Michigan- The Vandy Jayhawk boys basketball team is off to an incredible start. The team has strung together a 6-1 record to open the year- with their only loss by a margin of a single bucket. Just one year ago the team only won a pair of games, going 2-19. Those days are long gone for Vandercook Lake’s varsity basketball team. Their season opened at Springport with a 65-43 win. They stayed on the road for two games. Traveling to Concord and then Stockbridge. Winning by margins of 64-48 and 60-54. They then played at home twice in a row. First against Manchester and then East Jackson. The wins were impressive. The first 86-74 in overtime, and then 68-46. Following a 5-0 start, they lost their first game. But only by a single bucket. They travelled to Addison and barely fell to the Panthers, 54-56. However, they followed that up with a win. 64-50 the final over Grass Lake on their home court. Tonight the Jayhawks play the Comets of Hanover-Horton. High School Ice Hockey: Jackson United in SEC

(Photo: JTV File Photo) By, Gabriel Schray | JTV Sports | December 5th, 2018 Jackson, Michigan -- Just a year ago, Jackson United had one of the better seasons in program history. The team finished 21-2-0. The Vikings and Head Coach Andy Sinkovitz will be looking to build off of that success here this season. Coach Sinkovitz says that the team has a shorter bench than in past years, which allows for more ice time for Viking players. “This leaves it up to the players to seize the playing time,” said Sinkovitz. “It’s still early, but a couple of the guys are already starting to develop into key players.” After five games the team stands at 2-5. A power outage occurred just before the team played Kalamazoo Portage Northern. A transformer nearby the rink went out and killed the power to the Oshtemo area around the ice arena- so the game was cancelled. The Vikings have been potent on offense, scoring 21 goals in seven games (three goals per game on average). JU has struggled defensively however, allowing 28 goals over the same span (four goals per game on average). It’s a narrow enough margin that the program could easily…

Honorable mentions: Asland Hunt, (Napoleon High School): Hunt stripped away from a handful of defenders and broke off a huge gain. Classic ground and pound football from the Pirates Micah Cretsinger, (Jackson High School): End of the first half interception against Adrian High School, nearly a pick-six Exziar Edwards, (Jackson High School): We probably could build a list of just his scores.
