Jackson College Recognizes Alumni Wall Honorees
(July 12, 2021 4:42 PM) Jackson College has announced the selection of four alumni for recognition as the 2021 Alumni Wall honorees. Each year, Jackson College selects alumni for honor who have impacted their communities through their profession, service, and philanthropy. Jackson College Alumni Wall honorees are selected for their accomplishments and contributions where they live, work and play. Notable alumni are featured on the “alumni wall,” on the grand staircase in the Potter Center. The 2021 alumni honorees: Kyle Leighton, Class of 2009, founder of First Building Solutions, Leighton Property Management and Tapestry Girls who is an accredited investor, business executive and entrepreneur. Kyle Leighton is an accredited investor, business executive and entrepreneur with over a decade of collective experience. He is the founder of First Building Solutions, Leighton Property Management, and Tapestry Girls and features an extensive background involving global distribution, international relations, sales, and marketing management. He has helped numerous young people develop their own successful businesses by securing commercial real estate and startup capital. Jackson College Announces Return of Entertainment at Potter Center

(July 12, 2021 4:21 PM) Jackson College’s Potter Center today announced that the shows will go on this coming 2021-22 season. With improvements to the Harold Sheffer Music Hall at Potter Center, Jackson College promises audience members will enjoy an outstanding entertainment experience. “We are excited as painting continues inside the theatre, new seats are on the way, along with new carpet and a handrail down the center aisle,” said Cindy Allen, senior vice president and chief operating officer. “We are so thankful that the recent fire on the fourth floor of Potter Center, did not cause any damage to Music Hall or delay our renovations. We can’t wait to welcome our patrons back and show off this beautifully renovated theatre.” As construction work continues at the Potter Center, look for more information on ticket prices and availability soon. As of 12:00 PM today, there are 14,781 positive cases (cumulative), and 286 deaths (cumulative)*. There are 9 new cases since Friday’s report. Cumulative recovered, as of July 12: 14,422** As of July 7, there are 3 persons at Henry Ford Allegiance Health being treated as inpatients for COVID-19. The cumulative numbers posted on Mondays include the data from Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Recovered numbers are being posted as received. *These numbers do not reflect any cases or deaths identified through Michigan Department of Corrections. Their numbers are listed under a separate category and reported by the state at Michigan Statistics. Cases reported involving Jackson County school students or staff are included in our posted numbers. I-94 Project Construction Update for July 12, 2021
(July 12, 2021 10:39 AM) During the last few weeks, crews continued building the new westbound I-94 bridge over West Avenue and have demolished the Lansing Avenue bridge over I-94. Additionally, crews continued to place embankment, install drainage structures and storm sewer, and place the open grade drainage course where the new westbound I-94 roadway will be near the US-127/M-50 interchange. During the coming weeks, the contractor will continue building the new westbound I-94 bridge over I-94, as well as the northern half of the new Lansing Avenue bridge. Additionally, they will continue placing permanent drainage structures and installing underdrain on the new westbound I-94 alignment. The contractor will also continue building the future westbound I-94 pavement section with placement of an open graded drainage course and will be grading in preparation to install more concrete pavement in the coming days. Traffic maintenance for this upcoming week will include: The northbound US-127/M-50 ramp to westbound I-94 is closed, as well as one lane being closed on northbound US-127/M-50 from Sparks Street to Springport Road. The southbound US-127/M-50 ramp to eastbound I-94 is closed with traffic maintained via a temporary ramp using a temporary traffic signal. The Cooper Street ramp…
