Candidate Declares for 65th District State Representative
Jackson County Democratic Party Chair Barb Shelton introduced the party's candidate for 65th District State Representative, Jeff Crowther. Crowther will be campaigning for the seat currently held by Mike Shirkey in the November of 2014 election. Depression Awareness Month
October marks Annual Depression Awareness Month and Elizabeth Knoblauch and Sarah Sabin from LifeWays discussed the observance. This week also marks the 50th anniversary of Community Mental Health. LifeWays shared a celebratory cake with JTV and reminded viewers of the services available to the community through LifeWays. By embracing the fall colors and focusing more on the beauty of life, and not the harshness of competition, he’s found a little a joy this week. October is Fire Prevention Month
Jackson Fire Chief Dave Wooden provided viewers with some safety tips in observance of Fire Prevention Month, including reminders to change batteries in smoke detectors and replace furnace filters. He is also recommending people install carbon monoxide detectors. Consumers Energy Kicks Off Anchor Institution Initiative
Consumers Energy Economic Development Director Al Hooper and Community Development Program Manager Leslie Youngdahl are in the process of instituting the "Anchor Initiative" program in Jackson. Governor Rick Snyder is encouraging anchor institutions like corporations, hospitals and colleges to buy local, encourage local development of downtown residential space and assist in "placemaking". The efforts are being modeled after a successful program in Midtown Detroit.
