Valuable Lessons Learned by Raczkowski on Wrestling Mat

By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (January 16, 2022 8:00 AM) Coming off an all-state performance as a freshman, Western High School wrestler Lincoln Raczkowski had high hopes heading into the Michigan High School Athletic Association state wrestling finals two years ago. And why not. He was 45-1 and on a roll. But the wrestler learned a valuable lesson at Ford Field … there is always someone a little better. Raczkowski lost in the blood round – the round where you win and earn a medal or lose and go home – to a wrestler he had beaten before.  At that point, he made up his mind to work a little harder … starting the Monday after the Saturday state wrestling finals.  Now a senior, Raczkowski is 25-0 this season and looking for the big prize this winter. “My goal is to not lose this season,” Raczkowski said. “I felt good after earning all-state honors as a freshman. “I did not do well as a sophomore.” To make matters worse, Raczkowski broke his collar bone two weeks into the COVID-19 delayed season in 2021. That makes for a hungry wrestler. “You learn that everyone wants something that you want too,” Raczkowski…

JTV Sports Quick Focus: Kennedy Leading LCCHS to Hockey Success

By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (January 15, 2022 8:38 PM) A high-scoring line is leading Lumen Christi Catholic High School to a solid season. Kavin Kennedy, Nash Hanchett, and Josh DuMont have scored 21 of the team’s 32 goals this season. The trio has tallied 26 of the 44 assists for the Titans.  That line is helping to lead the Titans to a 9-3 overall record and 5-1 in the South Central Hockey League – good for first place in the league. Kennedy has scored 14 goals and dished nine assists. The Titans are being led by first year Coach Dan Brady. “Coach is my uncle so that makes it easy to communicate,” Kennedy said. “A lot of the Lumen Christi tradition was carried over as he (Brady) was a player and an assistant coach under Mike Wartella. “He (Brady) is a little more offensive minded.” The Titans had a solid season in 2021, but COVID and injuries derailed Lumen Christi in the playoffs. Kennedy said the Titans have struggled in the playoffs in the past few years.  “I think this year we can make a run in the playoffs,” Kennedy said.  He has yet to decide if college hockey…
