Ventilator Race to Raise Funds for Special Camp

Jackson College respiratory care students will race to raise funds for Camp Michi-MAC in a “5K” Ventilator Race at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5 in front of Justin Whiting Hall. To commemorate National Respiratory Care Week, Oct. 25-31, students will race in teams around the front circle drive of Justin Whiting Hall pushing ventilator machines. There will be prizes best decorated vent. Individuals or groups may sponsor a team per lap (one lap equals one “kilometer”) or for the total race, five laps. Students have established an online Go Fund Me account at https://www.gofundme.com/jc6sqqf4 for those wishing to donate. Apple cider and donuts will be provided during the event. Camp Michi-MAC, a camp for children with asthma, is conducted at the Skyline Camp and Retreat Center, located in Almont, Lapeer County, Mich. Campers can have a “regular” camp experience because the medical team, who are on site 24 hours a day, understands asthma and allergies, triggers and proper treatment. Spaghetti Dinner Benefit

There will be a Spaghetti Dinner benefit event for Kip Walsh on Saturday, November 14th from 4 to 7pm at Northwest Elementary School. Kip was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and is receiving treatment in Chicago at the Cancer Treatment Center. In addition to the dinner, there will be a silent auction entertainment by Ghostrider DJ. Proceeds will go toward helping with the family's expenses.

Halloween Events

Halloween 2015 is being celebrated on Friday and Saturday in the Jackson area with several community events. Jackson College hosts its second annual "Spooktacular" Friday from 5:30 to 7pm at Potter Center. In addition to candy, children (age 12 and under) will be treated to a special Halloween movie and other surprises. Spring Arbor University will host "Halloween in the Science Lab" 6:30 p.m. Friday on the campus. SAU will also host its night of fright from 9 to 11 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Beebe on the campus of Spring Arbor University. On Saturday, The Jackson YMCA along with Partnership Park, hosts a Trunk or Treat event in the Y parking lot. Hours are 6 to 8pm. Hot dogs and cocoa will be served. Westwinds Church, at Robinson and McCain, will host indoor trick or treating from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Jackson Free Methodist Church in Vandercook Lake will host its Trunk or Treat from 6 to 8 p.m. on Halloween. The Jackson District Library will be celebrating Halloween at several branches. Liberty Firefighters Hosting Food Drive

Help us fight local hunger on Saturday, November 7th during our 3rd annual Firehouse Food Drive! The drive will be from 10am - 2pm. Donations can be dropped off at the fire station during the event, at the Township hall on Mondays and Thursdays between 8am - 5pm, or at our Halloween party this Saturday. Currently, the food pantry is having a hard time keeping personal hygiene items and paper towels in stock.
