Whether you're making room for a new "football-ready" TV, or you're just doing a bit of cleaning, stop by Consumers Energy’s Parnall complex on Saturday, Sept. 26 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and recycle your old appliances and electronics. The address is 1945 Parnall Road. This year, Consumers Energy is teaming up with Habitat for Humanity and Valley City Recycling. Volunteers from both organizations will be on hand to help handle your recyclables. In addition, we are making a donation of $1,000 to Habitat for Humanity and will add 20 cents for every pound of electronics recycled. Last year, we donated $1,300 to Habitat for Humanity and know we can beat that this year. As part of our Appliance Recycling Program, we are offering $50 rebates for eligible refrigerators and freezers and $15 rebates for eligible window air conditioners and dehumidifiers. JACKSON, MI - The Potter Center at Jackson College welcomes country superstar Martina McBride to the stage at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, the kickoff to the 2015-16 entertainment season. The multi-million selling vocalist gathered a group of enduring musical chestnuts and assembled a small band to record them live in the studio for her latest album. The result, a collection titled “Everlasting,” is a stunning listening experience, with McBride finding fresh nuances in familiar lyrics and working within beautifully crafted new arrangements of cherished melodies. She breathes new life into ballads like “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long,” “If You Don’t Know Me By Now” and “Do Right Woman” by digging into the deeper meaning of their messages. McBride is equally refreshing on such tempo tunes as “Wild Night” and “Suspicious Minds.” Motown gets some new twists in her versions of “Come See About Me” and “What Becomes of the Broken Hearted.” The 1967 Linda Ronstadt ballad “Little Bit of Rain” becomes a standout moment on McBride’s new record. In an exciting twist to an already exciting evening planned for Famous @ the Forks, Saturday, September 12, 2015 at the Bohm Theatre, the Greater Albion Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau is pleased to report that talent scouts for the Eleventh Season of "America's Got Talent" recently contacted us. They seek our talent to be part of their Detroit tryouts, scheduled for November 7th, Cobo Center, 1 Washington Blvd., downtown Detroit. Famous @ the Forks, tween and teen talent show, is modeled after "America's Got Talent" wherein, talented tweens and teens first compete in front of a panel of experts who select from all contestants, ten finalist. Over the next two months, these ten finalists work with coaches to perfect their acts. This year's coaches included Stefanie Q. Wright, lead singer of The Motown Experience and Oscar Stone of Men of God's Heart. On the night of the Bohm Theatre final performance, the ten competitors perform in front of a live audience and a panel of judges. These judges then decide first, second, and third place winners. This year's panel of judges includes Queen Bulls (a finalist in America's Got Talent, Season 9), Alfred Singleton, and Amy Robertson. College and community members are invited to celebrate the opening of Jackson College’s newest student housing unit, Campus View 3, at a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4 p.m. Monday, August 10. Campus View 3 is located on the south side of campus and consists of two- and four-bedroom units, with 202 beds overall. A short ceremony will include comments by President Dan Phelan, Board of Trustees Chair Sam Barnes, Director of Housing Tasha Warfield, a representative of Student Suites, Inc. -- who oversaw the design and construction of the new housing -- cutting of the ribbon and tours of the new facility. Cost for this Campus View 3 project is $10 million, paid by revenue bonds issued by the separate non-profit corporation, Jackson College Dormitories Inc., created by the Board of Trustees. There is no liability to the College. The College provided the furnishings for the building, at a cost of about $500,000, and provides staffing, cleaning and security services for the building. The College also bought the architectural design and drawings at a cost of $400,000 up front to ensure the project began if the financing did not take place.
