The cold air will return today and really become established tonight and then through the weekend.  At the same time as the cold air comes in from the north, a wave on the front to our south will spread precipitation northward across this area Thursday night.  Periods of rain and thunderstorms are expected Friday into Sunday as waves move along the stalled frontal system. At this point most of the rain would be Friday into Saturday morning. More rain is possible Saturday night into Sunday but it now seems the front may be pushed far enough south so that rain will mostly be south of Michigan. Today:  Cloudy, with a high near 65. The cold air comes back into our area by Thursday morning and may will stay here into the weekend. A storm system will track along the front Friday into Saturday just south of Michigan bringing periods of rain and thunderstorms. Locally heavy rainfall is more than possible. One more sunny day with highs near 80. Then a storm system coming out of the Central Plains will bring showers and thunderstorms to the area Wednesday afternoon into the mid evening hours. It will still be warm with highs in the mid to upper 70s. Cooler air follows for Thursday but then yet another storm system coming out of the Southern Plains runs into a stationary front over the area Friday into Sunday. A weak area of high pressure over the region will act to keep the weather dry for most of the area today. A cold front will drop down from the northwest tonight into early Sunday. This could result in some scattered showers. A stronger high pressure system will move in behind this system leading to generally dry weather Sunday night into Monday along with lower temperatures. RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 8 AM THIS MORNING TO 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING.  Winds…Southwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.  Any fires that start on Tuesday will have a chance  to become a wildfire that spreads quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.  A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. The combination of strong winds...low relative humidity...and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.  Be careful with any activities that could potentially lead to a wildfire.
