The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids has issued a flood advisory for the Grand River at Jackson affecting Jackson County. A system moving from the Ohio Valley into the eastern Great Lakes today through Friday night will spread steady rain into southern portions of the state.  Areas toward I-94 could see in excess of an inch of rain in spots. The weather will be cool for the most part today into the weekend with an upper trough nearby or overhead. High pressure will bring fair weather to the Great Lakes region today. We are expecting partly cloudy skies with high temperatures around 60 degrees. Another system will spread clouds and rain into the area tonight, with Southern Lower Michigan in the best location to see rain. A persistent rain is then expected to continue from Thursday into Friday across southern and eastern portions of the state. Locally heavy rain is possible for areas like Marshall, Mason and Jackson. The passage of a cold front through the area around sunrise will end the threat of thunderstorms and flooding. We may have a brief peak at the sun and temperatures will quickly rise into the 60s. However the cold air finally surges in this afternoon with gusty winds. Temperatures will fall back into the 50s with frequent rain showers. The gusty winds, frequent rain showers and temperatures in the 40s will continue into Tuesday afternoon. The system finally moves out of the area Tuesday night. The threat of heavy rainfall is the primary story for this weekend. We have a storm coming northeast out of the southern Plains that runs into a large Canadian Polar High over Ontario.  That blocks the front from getting too far north and results an extended period of showers and thunderstorms from late this afternoon into Monday morning. Rainfalls of over 2 inches are more than possible over a large part of our area by Monday morning. A system passing south of Michigan is expected to bring some showers to the area late this afternoon into early tonight.  There will  then be a break in the rainfall during the morning hours of  Saturday. A storm system tracking northward across Lake Michigan today will push a cold front through the area this morning. Expect a period of showers and even an isolated thunderstorm with the passage of that cold front.  This is a strong cold front so once it is through we will see temperatures falling during the afternoon with gusty winds.
