Jackson County players lead Albion to women’s basketball win

ADRIAN, Mich. – Northwest graduate Haley Nugent produced 17 points in her third game playing for Albion College as the Britons earned a 71-53 victory over Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Adrian College.   Albion led 36-30 at halftime and outscored the Bulldogs, 22-10, in the third quarter. The teams played even, 13-13, in the fourth quarter.   Brittany Leutz (an Albion sophomore who prepped at Napoleon High School, Sam Carter and Evelyn Wischmeyer hit 3-point baskets as Albion went on an 11-4 run to build a double digit lead.   Wischmeyer added two more from beyond the arc as Albion led 58-40 after three quarters.   Wischmeyer, who knocked down 3-of-4 shots from three-point range, led the starting unit with 16 points and six rebounds. Brittany Leutz chipped in with 10 points.   Starnisha Harris was Adrian’s only double figure scorer with 11.

Winter Weather Advisory

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 AM EST THIS MORNING.  Occasional snow through the morning commute. Areas of freezing drizzle can be expected as well. Plan on slippery road conditions. Additional snow accumulations of around one inch are expected. Snow will wind down quickly this morning coming to an end across the area between 700am and 900am in most areas. Skies will trend toward partly to mostly sunny this afternoon. High pressure will move through the area for tonight and Tuesday bringing dry weather.  Southerly winds return for Tuesday night into Wednesday which will bring warmer air into the region after a couple near normal days in the 30s for highs today and on Tuesday. Highs on Wednesday will push into the 40s with near 50 possible on Thursday. A brief wintry mix of precipitation is possible late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning before the warm air surges in. Today Snow, possibly mixed with freezing drizzle before 7am, then a chance of snow between 7am and 10am. High near 34. West southwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Occasional snow is expected today with a more widespread snow tonight. Accumulations of an inch or less can be expected today with 1 to 4 inches tonight.
