Jackson County Cumulative Report: 506 COVID-19 Positive Cases and 31 Deaths

(July 7, 2020 2:02 PM) The Jackson County Health Department released the COVID-19 positive numbers for Jackson County.  As of 12 PM today, there are 506 positive cases (cumulative), and 31 deaths (cumulative)*.     There is 1 new case and 1 new death since yesterday’s report.  The Michigan Department of Corrections is reporting as of 4 PM Monday, July 6, there are 1,608 of confirmed positive cases at Jackson facilities and 157 confirmed positive staff. As of 6 AM July 1, there is one person at Henry Ford Allegiance Health being treated inpatient for COVID-19. Cumulative recovered** patients (cumulative): 431 (updated weekly, as of July 3). *These numbers do not reflect any cases or deaths identified through Michigan Department of Corrections.  Their numbers are listed under a separate category "Others" for the Michigan Statistics. **Recovered is defined as the number of persons with a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis who are alive 30 days post-onset (or referral date if onset is not available). Agriculture, Farm and Small Business Grants Announced

(July 7, 2020 12:03 PM) Fifteen million dollars in economic assistance for Michigan farms and agricultural processors, to mitigate risks of the COVID-19 virus across the state’s food production industry, gained approval from the Michigan Strategic Fund, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) announced today.   “Michigan’s food and agriculture sector has been especially hard hit by the COVID-19 virus, and this investment will provide critical resources to ensure the safety of the state’s food production industry and its workforce,” said Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. “We can further our economic recovery in the state by putting federal dollars through the CARES Act to work for the people and business across Michigan through efforts like these grants to farms and food processors.”  In response to the economic impact of COVID-19, the State of Michigan has appropriated $15 million of federal CARES Act funding through SB 690, signed into law by Governor Whitmer last week, to implement the Michigan Agricultural Safety Grant Program. Residents Reminded to Stay Safe as Summer Temperatures Remain High

(July 7, 2020 10:40 AM) With temperatures across the state expected to remain in the 80s and above through next week, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and Henry Ford Allegiance Health are reminding all residents to stay cool to beat the heat. During this past July 4 weekend, July 2 to July 5, there were 120 Emergency Department visits due to complaints that include heat exhaustion and heatstroke, sunburn and sun poisoning reported across the state. Daily temperatures this week are anticipated to again rise above 80 degrees, which generally correlates with an increase in ED visits for heat-related illness. The National Weather Service is forecasting a high temperature of 93 degrees today, tomorrow and Thursday.  Daytime high temperatures are expected to be in the upper 80s for the next ten days. Workers putting in a full shift wearing a mask or face covering are going to get hot and sweat more than usual. Henry Ford Allegiance Health is reminding employers to make sure all workers stay properly hydrated during their shifts.  Working through the conditions of dehydration are not only physically uncomfortable but can be very dangerous when operating heavy equipment and working with tools. Red Cross Blood Drives. The The American Red Cross is now testing all blood, platelet and plasma donations for COVID-19 antibodies. The antibody test used by the Red Cross is authorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and may indicate if the donor’s immune system has produced antibodies to the coronavirus, regardless of whether they developed symptoms.  At the same time, there continues to be an urgent need for blood donations after hospital demand for blood products increased in recent weeks. MDOC: 1,608 Confirmed Positive Cases at Jackson Facilities, 157 Confirmed Positive Jackson Staff

(July 6, 2020 9:54 PM) The Michigan Department of Corrections is reporting as of 4 PM Monday, July 6, there are 4,018 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases at facilities throughout the state.  Of that statewide total, 1,608 of the confirmed positive cases are at Jackson facilities. In Jackson, there are 505 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases at Parnall Correctional Facility, 299 at Charles E. Egeler Reception and Guidance Center, 69 at Duane Waters Health Center and 735 at G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility.  Among staff, there are a total of 383 COVID-19 positive cases statewide.   In Jackson, there are 74 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases among employees at Parnall Correctional Facility, 3 at Cooper Street Correctional Facility, 37 at Charles E. Egeler Reception and Guidance Center, 40 at G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility and 3 at Jackson Regional Warehouse. There have been a total of 68 deaths (statewide) of prisoners who had tested positive for COVID-19, 22 of those deaths were among prisoners at Jackson facilities.  The most recent death, reported on June 2, was of a prisoner who had originally been housed at G.
